Man would be comfortable with about another 8 inces or so leg room..........

I am 6' and get cramped up after a short cruise with the seat all the way back.

Im sure someone has done this. , what needs to be done exactly.

77 FJ40

thank you,
Rick.

I have heard this as well...........but can't find the post...

did you drill holes after flipping the rails...

buy a 81+ (or is it 79+) or drive a stock 45 truck for a while :D

^my knees are still sore from cruising today....this is a must do for me !!

thanks for the great info..

I mentioned 8 inches up above.....man, might as well take out the seats and sit in the jump seat...... :D :D

I think 2" would be great....heck $29.oo....Im not going to bother making em.

6'6" in a FJ40

I'm 6'6" and I got all the leg room I could get by flipping the brackets. The only way to get more is to fab custom brackets, but you can only go back to the wheel wells. Even with the bracket flip, my knees are still high on either side of the wheel. When I put the hardtop on, I have to open the door to get my foot on the clutch. Once I get the PS conversion done, Im putting a 14" wheel on and getting rid of the bus steering wheel. Didnt have the same problems in the 55, I built custom brackets for the buckets and bolted them in exactly where I wanted. The only problem is that I look straight at the B pillar when looking left. Guess I should blame my mom for mating with a Yeti. Hodag

the po of my old 78 was 6'4...he made aluminum bars that mounted to the stock seat brackets which were backwards and had them tapped for the seats, so they stuck back an extra 2", plus it raised the seat 1 1/2"...i had a hard time reaching the pedals with the seat all the way forward.

I'm 6'3" and flipping the bracket made it better, then raising the seat with spacers and thicker foam did the trick. A 6'0" midget ought to be fine with flipped brackets.

:flipoff2: sure glad i aint got this problem
but i could stand to be taller,oh well.but i sure do fit in my 40 well.

Will flipping the brackets work on later models, (1980+)

I've got you all beat, 6',9"

I did the 2" bracket kit for $30 bucks. Also did a 32" IDIDIT tilt steering column when I did my resto. Seat is 2" further back and steering wheel is approx. 3" further back. Also went with a Lecarra 14" steering wheel.

Pic if you want to see it on my site: http://www.crustycruisers.com/ps183.jpg

A lot more leg room!! I can use the tilt either full forward or back without hitting my legs. Before I pretty much had to open the driver side door to clutch with the stock seat location and steering wheel.

No problems now and I have taken it on several long road trips and it has been very comfortable.

Rick,

I bought one of your hats about a month ago when you first came out with them, in Mustard yellow.

I really like it, very nice, like the logo. Thanks anyway.

Matt

I did the seat bracket flip too. 1st thing when I brought it home. I'm 6'4" and that mod made the truck usable for me. I wish I had more leg room or elevation but then my head would be in danger. I eventually flipped the brackets on the passenger side too.
