Anyone game for starting a Part Number sticky? For those of us who use the interweb to order parts it would be handy to not dig through 20 posts trying to figure out what the correct part is called. Nor do all parts show on the diagrams. Even little things like the various width CV clips would be nice to have cataloged.

Start by pulling all the numbers in FAQ all ready? A " one stop shop" makes sense.

OK, I'm happy to give that a try if you'd like, but as a FAQ link, though, that'll be better.

OLC, you (so you get all the credit due, of course :) ) start a new thread with a broad descriptive title. Put something in the first post to make clear we are limiting this thread to numbers and description, with no sidetracking. Make it to stay tight and organized. I'll put a link to it in the FAQ if it takes off fine - remind me in a bit. And then please delete this thread.

good idea!

Or, just start compiling them here, and one of the mods can cut/paste them into one post and add that post to the FAQ.

I'd rather start with a clean thread and then put in a direct link. That way the posters could add pics and useful info on each part. Plus I don't have time to cut and paste. Although feel free to do as much of the latter as you wish, of course :)

^ This! More input time for you TM but much more efficient downstream when parts/part numbers and diagrams need to be pinged.

Good ideas Dennis & Trunk!

^^Most important part of that. Otherwise it just becomes another "what have you done" thread. I like the idea a lot, but I think it will be very hard to keep it clean. Members are bound to ask questions, make comments or suggestions. In turn, that makes it just another thread.

Great idea. It will surely add to E's and Trunk's workload. I will do my best not to sidetrack other threads with awesome plastidip comments..... but you know the saying. "While the cat's away, the mice will plastidip everything in sight" I kid, of course. :D

This is what I use for parts diagrams. 1) select year, 2) select components, 3) look at diagrams for p/n

ie. This has all the front axle support arms/bushings: http://www.utoyot8.com/Picture.aspx...+1+OF+2+++++-----++(9801-9908)&ccode=&ppName=

Good link...haven't checked this site out before...comprehensive and it even lists the hub side axle retaining clips among other more obscure parts.

Ok...so I take it all back: We don't need parts # sticky :D

We may not need a master parts sticky because of the availability of parts diagrams and lists on web sites, but I still find it useful to have a simple list of parts for each common maintenance/repair action. Examples include the 90K service parts list in the FAQs and the OEM cat back exhaust parts list I posted a few days ago. As I embark on a "keep it for the rest of my life" set of maintenance/repair items this winter to renew my '04, I plan to continue posting the parts by each job (wheel bearings/hubs, brakes, expanded 90k service, etc.) to help others doing the same individual tasks.

Go for it guys, don't wait for me. I do like the idea of grouping the parts by maintenance task. Makes it easier to get all the right stuff and not forget anything. Diagrams are definitely helpful but collective MUDtelligence is what I'm looking to glean.

What these sites don't tell you are very important distinctions like part number changes, what else you might need to get the job done correctly, what you can leave out... Hence why I always advocate developing a relationship with your parts person.

Great idea. I will start to compile all the part #'s tonight. It will include the new part #, with reference to the old part numbers. I'll try to cover everything from the ABS unit, to the body panels. It may take a while, but it would be worth it in the end. I will do my best to post the correct information. Each post will be regarding a different area of the vehicle.

to the mods...if I create a thread, can you close it to replies but keep them open to me? So I can add sections?

No, but if you do it in one post in this thread and edit it as you go, I can parse it out to it's own closed thread when you're done.

better yet. I can close/open threads. I will post up the start tonight. I'll cover all model years and changes. It will be a huge post. So i don't think it will fit in one post. It will most likely take a week or so to get everything done.

all right. nice of you to volunteer, 2K. Just start a thread. We can clean it up later. And I can link to it in the FAQ. We can figure out a way to let folks add to it later on, too.
