I wonder how the stock ecu will act with out a transmission connected.
As long as you have a properly setup TurboLamik TCU (the main one I have seen for the 8HP, there may be others) to “replace” the stock unit I see no issue.

When swapping Supras from a similar auto to R154s etc it was an easy as switching the box, adding a pedal/master and slave, and re-wiring the neutral safety switch. Most of the JZ swaps I’ve done ran on a stock auto ECU; on these older Toyotas that don’t have CANbus systems they’re not heavily integrated.

It would be cool being able to rev-match a 2UZ when braking down steep grades, or hold a gear up I70 towards the tunnel without having to absolutely finesse the skinny pedal

I know we have a member (at least one...) who did a high hp 2uz build with a manual. I would have to think that either: a) the ECU was able to be tuned to not care about controlling the transmission, or b) not having a trans to control didn't affect the way it controlled the engine in any way. I can't remember the user name, but I seem to recall he'd imported the LC from the middle east over to the US around this time last year and ended up selling it on BaT. If anyone knows who I'm talking about, I wonder if he could speak to what was done with the tune (generally speaking) to de-couple the trans from the controller, at least as far as engine control is concerned.
