Hello,

I've been reading a lot of audio system threads to try and figure out good options for my rig. There are some great threads, but they don't age well due to the frequent changes of available speakers.

For the front doors, I've seen people make reference to Morel Virtus Nano Carbon Integra speakers. Current version for sale here.

Although people have made mention of them, I haven't seen any pics of install, or more importantly, any opinions about sound quality, ease of installation, etc.

My questions to anyone who has these:

Are you happy with the quality?
Where did you install the external crossovers?
Did you use a separate amp?

My goal is to get a halfway-decent audio setup without modifying the doors, while also retaining the factory grilles. I already have the Infinity 4" speakers for the rear doors because that was a no-brainer at $50/pair and at that price I can upgrade later if I don't like them. The Morel's are a different story in terms of taking a leap of faith because of their high price tag.

My thought is that I will mount an amp and the external crossovers in the Wit's End QPM along with a Focal 8" powered sub. (Opinions on the Focal are welcome too if anyone is using that.)

I was planning on those Morel Nano's but I was able to get my old Boston Pro 6.4 mid's work with their spacer ring and clear the window opening and also close the door and not mash the Boston Grill (much). I painted the grill to match the door vinyl so all looks pretty oem-like. The back of the speaker magnet is the issue and I believe the morel nano's are a good solutuon. I have no idea what kind of mid or mid-sub sound they have though.

I think your biggest issue will be trying to use the factory grills and no mods for the front. I'm pretty sure the 6.5's won't come close to fiting the factory grills and have clearance for the 6.5' speakers to function. 5's might even be too large for the factory grills.

For a sub it'll need to be a low profile one to really fit and meet the sub's volume requirements. I haven't tried Focal's subs so I can't comment.

I have installed three sets of the Morels. I like them, bit of cutting to get them to fit, especially in back doors.

I suggest running them through and amp and all new speaker wire as well.

The grills like to fall off but I have found some butyl tape fixes that.

Top quality sound.

Cheers

I ended up installing some cheap Pioneer's in the front for now. They actually sound pretty good after some EQ in the head unit. They required some spacing to clear the window rail and the door panel doesn't sit all the way flat over them. None of this bothers me since I consider them to be temporary until I work on the long-term solution, which will be sometime next summer.

Any updates @truthdetector? I'm looking to replace my 12 year old Polk 6.5's with Morel Virtus Nano Carbon 63 and was looking for some guidance/advice. I'm not 100% sure but the mids might fit the LX dash tweeter position. Anyone else have any recent experience with the Morel Virtus Nano components? Is there anywhere in the door the crossover might fit? I already have a single new wire running from my amp into the door, don't really want to fish more.

I did end up going with the Morel Virtus Nano component set for the front doors using the Solvefunction tweeter mounts.

I had a friend 3D print a ring that takes up the space caused by the recess in the door where the OEM speaker used to live. The ring he printed is 141mm ID, 165mm OD and 8mm thick. I did need to use a flap wheel to remove quite a bit of material from the ring to get it to sit flush in the recess. I used butyl tape to affix it and also provide a good seal.

Used the speaker to mark and predrill holes for the screws that came with the speakers. They are only biting into the sheet metal, but they are in there pretty solid and I don't expect them to come loose. I was careful not to over-tighten and strip the holes.

These, the rear door, and subwoofers are powered by a 5-channel Morel amp in the QPM. All new speaker wire from the amp.

Focal iSub Twins under the seats. Passenger side fits easily, but it is a very tight fit for the driver seat. I'm not sure you could slide it in there with the seat installed. I installed the driver seat over the speaker.

I'm very happy with the sound quality of the system. It's not a competition bass machine, that was not my goal, but having those small subs under the seats fills out the low end enough for me.
