I say 4k MAX, 3k - 3500 is alot better, there is alot of rust on that front bumper, and i am sure it is elsewhere as well. look it over real good, and throw a offer at him, see where he stands. i always just offer, if he says no, give him your number and WALK.

He has all all those parts for a reason ...

It doesn't seem like you neeeeeeed a rig real bad. So offer then walk, give him some time to think, then call him back in a couple of weeks.

I got my 77 for 3k, no hardtop though, and forsure no factory SUNROOF ...

Cheers ...

remember where you are, Idaho and Montana aren't really states for high cruiser prices. I got mine in a little bit worse shape than that for $800, but mine didn't have the rust in the bed like that one. Start Low not insultingly low but offer $2000-$2500, and as always cash speaks loud. If you pass on this one I know there is one for sale in St. Regis right off I-90. 30 miles from the MT/ID border.

I think out of all the 40 years the late 70's models have the most distinct look to them. I mean this rig just looks so 70s. It's funny to think that not even FJ40's could escape the disco era entirely. I hope you keep this same paint job if you ever do a resto.

My white spoke wheels have two small red-and-blue pinstripes that run along the outer circumference of the rim. I haven't seen this on any other white-spokers. I've grown to love this little touch of 70s flare on my rig.

Those are from Les Schwabs. $29/ea.

I wouldn't be surprised. Now I know where to find replacements

I paid $3500 for my 1970 fj40 ... and parts are harder to find!

If I really wanted that truck, I'd offer 3,500 and go as high as 4,000.

Judging by the pics and what everyone else has said.............He probably doesn't need to sell it, so beating him up on the price isn't going to work very well IMHO.

Keep us up to date.

I'd say $3k max and then only if you're planning a frame-off resto, or to drive the wheels off it, as is. There is more rust than you've seen. Probably half the bolts will break when you're trying to remove them. It probably needs a complete brake system and cooling system; a couple thousand in parts.

I don't mean to be a downer. It is a good start on a resto if you've got the money, time and a place to do it.

That sunroof is always going to knock at least $1000 off a restored price.

Chad, I paid 2K for mine - 90% stock but nonrunning and the engine turned out to have 2 dead cylinders. Mine had less cancer than that one. My body is tight, doors open and close solid, etc.

I made the mistake of letting the road deicer get to it a few winters ago and the rust came out of the woodwork. That's what I would fear on that one too.

So I'm throwing in with the 3K crowd.:) theo

ps - Junk's momma can run?

OTOH, he also said the Warn hubs and whitespokes were OEM, too. I know that's crap, but didn't call him on it.

I thought the Warn hubs were put on as an option at the dealer. So, I could understand him calling that stock. I believe the factory white spokes were only available from 79 on, though.

If this is going to be a project vehicle (not a daily driver), if you have the money, and if you really want it then follow your heart. I wouldn't feel bad about paying $4500 for that cruiser. I paid $6000 for my '78, it has more rust issues than that one, plus I had to replace the transfer case immediately after I bought it. And STILL I have no regrets. Gave me a good reason to start working on it right away, plus garage therapy is cheaper than real therapy. ;)

I wish I had started with something like that instead of what I started with for 5 grand when I bought my 79. Granted My rig had at least another 5 grand in recently purchased parts attached, but the truck had been half restored half assed and I had to basically do a frame off to make it right. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the wheels and sunroof were on it when he bought it. I remember back in the fall of 81 as a little kid going to the dealer to buy a truck with my dad. He bought an 82 sr5 longbed, but they had several trucks on the lot with aftermarket wheels, stripe kits, oversized tires, roll bars, etc.

Good to hear from you, Theo!

Thanks for all the advice, guys. After much internal turmoil, I'm 98% sure I've decided to pass. I have too many irons in the fire right now and would rather spend the $$$ to build my 85 mini truck. My FJ40 is already where I want it and the FJ60 is 90%, but I'm considering getting rid of that. For those that don't know, my shop collapsed about a month ago and I'm rebuilding, I'm also having my 3rd kid/2nd son here anyday. I guess I need to save the $$$ more.

Thanks for all the input, though. I really appreciate it.

Anyone else want it????
