Over the last few months, I’ve been out to the Trails quite often. I do have the Eaton / Harrop lockers front and rear with Revolution 4.88 gears. Everything was both cryogenically treated, as well as REM coated along with all new t case gears bearings etc. I’ve definitely noticed that the ATRAC system works when the front locker is not engaged but the center diff and rear locker are. And that first event with the blinking ATRAC light I realized I was on a very steep incline, then I engaged the front locker and it takes about a quarter of a rotation before the locker engages. This was just enough to cause the ATRAC like to blink. Really no issues at all. Once I became familiar with how they engage and disengage. In fact to me, there’s kind of an advantage, because when running six or seven psi in the tires, they are difficult to turn with the front locker engaged. On the trail if I need to do a three point turn in order to pick the correct line on the next obstacle, by reversing slightly, I’m able to turn the front wheel. This is because the locker temporarily disengages for that short movement just long enough to get my wheels turned. I have had three other rock crawlers with ARB lockers. The family wagon is by no means of rock crawler, but it’s surprising how capable that truck is now. I like that the ARB lockers were instantaneous with the push of a button, when they’re new. But overtime on all three vehicles I developed small air leaks which caused the compressor to start to run more and more to keep the lockers engaged. I got tired of chasing down air leaks. Plus if you’re trying to be sly, everybody knows you’re cheating with the air lockers when they’re watching you. Lol.

The reasons why I am moving my lockers from the LX to the LC. Looks like a great combo for all situations.

Today hit some pretty extreme trails again down in Mexico. So just another update. I hit a section of the trail where there was a good 60 or 70 meters were only two wheels were touching the ground at a time. 3 foot deep ruts above 5 feet apart and I was crossing them diagonally. All three lockers, no no ATRAC light and no activation, even when only two wheels were touching the ground. next section was a bout a 30° hill climb with some loose surface rocks etc. not particularly rutted. The interesting thing is even when triple locked my air track activated going up this hill when my tires began to slip. All four tires were slipping and I was struggling for traction, and I noticed ATRAC light up.. I actually turned around and did the hill three more times. All were in low range, but I tried in first gear second gear, and also in fourth gear. Each and every time with all three lockers engaged, the ATRAC engaged. it was a slightly off camber claim so the only thing I can think of is that the steering angle input, somehow triggers ATRAC. when I went down the hill with all three lockers engaged coasting in first gear, ATRAC did not engage. however, if I disengage the lockers and went down the hill coasting in first gear at roughly walking speed, the ATRAC function to keep the vehicle pointed directly down the hill. I never knew a track work going downhill while coasting … but again when I went up the hill with all the lockers engaged all four tires were spinning a little bit, and the truck began to slip off, camber a little bit and ATRAC kicked in. I have no idea what it could possibly accomplish since all four wheels were rotating the same speed, but there must be something in the computer that detects steering input and wheel speed from the ABS system, therefore activating it in this particular circumstance. I wish there was a way to disconnect or turn it off completely, but there isn’t.
