Okay, don't flame me, but I had to ask what's the mpg for an 80 lifted 4 inches, descent armor, with about 2-300 pounds of extra weight, 4.88 gear AND 37's going to give you.

Yes this is a daily/trail rig. It's just that my 315's and 4.88 gives me max on the freeway 11MPG. I figured that maybe 37's might increase a little.

I do measure my MPG by Smiles Per Gallon BTW.

I think the weight of the 37's will give you diminishing returns on mileage. I am stock geared on 33's and average 13 - 14 mpg. I picked up my buddies 37's on the same rims and holy hell man those are heavy.

I think at 37's you are just happy to be getting 10 mpg.

No science for you, but my old LX450 was 5.29's / 37" Intercos.

I know it was sub-10, but not by much.

I never go so low as to hit the fuel light, but both my black 80 4.88's / 315's & the LX450 were owned at the same time, I'd drive both to the 200 - 225 miles on the trip odometer & go fill up.

So horseshoe / hand grenade - same MPG there.
I'm inclined to agree with @Kaninja - depending on the 37's the weight & added torque to get spinning I doubt you get better MPG. And a Interco 37 on a swingout you about need a davit winch.

You'll look bitchin' tho - and if we're talking 'smiles per mile', you'll win all day long.

At least you aren't trying to push 'em on stock 4.11's. Go for it if that's your rainbow!

I am lifted 4', well armored, winch, 4.88's, part timed transfer and 37" Trxus pulling an impressive 10 mpg. Empty the rig weighed 5700 pounds with 35's.

That's not bad. 1mpg for a bigger tire.

Not too heavy. Just grow a set and lift with your knees.

37's and 5.29's I could still touch 13mpg on the highway if conditions were right.

With the 40's and now the drag of the cage, I just recorded 12 mpg driving from Chicago to Moab and back. 11.95 to be exact.

37s & stock gears with a very light foot & light armour on my Lx is 10mpg city 12mpg highway.

Mine has 37s & 5.29s and the usual F&R bumpers, winch, spare tire, sliders, belly skid, and a roof rack. If I'm cruising at 65 mph I'll get about 13.5 mpg. It drops to low 11s at 75 mph. With just me, a full tank a gas, and the ARB fridge/slide I'm at 6360 lbs. I'm 215 lbs.

You drove from Chicago to Moab on 40s?

Living the dream.

FWIW I recently got 17 MPG highway (measured) on 37's (heavy combo Toyo Open Country M/T 37x13.50r17 on SCS F5 wheels) but geared 5.29... Truck weighed 5500 lbs as I ran it across our certified scale. Hope that helps!

I built my 80 to be a driver after I got tired of the tow rig life some years ago. It's gone a little further than I thought it would originally, but it runs down the highway great.
