Compared to my 96, I noticed my 95 has a lot of yellowish coating sprayed over the engine components that has gotten very yellow with time. Maybe this was overspray from a undercoating service

I wonder if there is a simple way to clean this coating off the engine,

Do you have an example? I have a 95, and I haven't noticed any yellowish tent. . But I also paint everything.

If you're on the east coast, it could be Wool Wax or Fluid Film used as an undercoating.

If you think that's what it may be, look up those manufacturers for how to remove that product.

PO was a bit of a wack job?

Here's a close up of this stuff that pretty much covers everything. I just replaced the big vacuum hose so it is not coated:

Betting it is called ‘cosmoline’ - Honda cars of that era were coated in it.

All new cars were given a kerosene spray & let sit for ~15mins, then washed with really hot water / hose hooked to the warwe heater & we had super-warm soap-mix on the buckets with fresh mitts easily weekly.

It was 90‘s standard to cosmo-coat a rig.

:meh:

Personally I would leave it alone, the aluminum TB and other components in the photo above do appear to have some sort of protective coating. If you clean it off you could then respray the components with a rust-preventive product, unless you live in a dry environment far from any source of salt or deicing chemicals.

Cosmoline. Same stuff they put on new brake rotors?
