Doing a front end rebuild on a 94 LC & my buddies 97LX. My buddy got some new birfs in case their needed for his front end ( he has very bad clicking on low low speed turns left & right). Are all OEM replacement birfs the same regardless of year. If I need to replace mine can I use his Birf's in my 94? Thanks for any help

There are two different designs, the difference being the over-all length of the shaft. Toyota lengthened the outer splined section in April 1994 production. The corresponding drive flange is also taller. You can use either shaft as long as you use the correct flange to go with it.
Toyota as superceeded the short to the long and owners of early production trucks need to get a tall flange along with a new shaft.

One additional variable is with and without ABS. An ABS birf (with exciter ring) can be used in a non-ABS truck but you can't go the other way (and have functional ABS). All 95-97 trucks are ABS, all 91-92 are non-ABS and 93-94 are a mix, most having ABS.

If my rig was made April 94 or later I can use Later style birfs with no other additional parts nessessary correct? My rig has abs so I'm good on that end.

Can't wait to get those boxes in Niagara Falls ;)

If it was made In May 94 or later you do not need flanges. If it was made in March or before you need flanges. If it was made in April 94 you need to see which ones it has in it.

Hey Beno, I hope things are well with you. Too bad we were not able

to do the Birf party last Jan :crybaby:

Regardless, you were a class act. Thanks for all the advice....a valuable member on this great board

Is there way you can tell what year your axles where manufactured? The reason I ask is that I have 2 axles that came from a junk yard and I want to make sure that I order the right parts for the correct year axle.

Thanks.

ok this may be a stupid question...will the later 94+ drive plates work with the older axles?

Does this mean that Ed Mace is no longer the whipping boy for packing errors?

Ed's working Service now. I pack a lot of them up, but not all of them....it's a team effort between myself and the warehouse manager and others. Your boxes are packed with cruiserlove.

They will fit the hubs just fine but will be too tall to attach the snap-ring to the short-splined early birf. The birf and flange must be of the same design to work properly.

Basicly you thank Beno for overages and you cuss Don out for shortages.....
