WTF...6-1 header, help

the bolt holes do not line up properly, it seems I would need bigger washers, but the intake will not accept them. I bought it from a guy in texas who got it from jt, was still in the box...you think jt would replace it?

JT has a bad rep around here! I hope they hook you up.

Dynosoar:zilla:

It is not uncommon to have to file the holes slightly. I had to take about 1/32 out of one and just a slight amount on a couple others. Then fit fine with stock intake/exhaust washers. Mine is a 6-1, not sure who the manufacturer was.

Could you post a picture of the problem?

The holes do not line up?

or

The washer do not fit?

Two seperate problems.

Yes, the JT is not a quality piece. Mine fortunately fit up, but is rusting badly after only like 1k miles.

Did you coat the bare metal or no? I coated mine, and I would expect it to rust immediately if I didn't put any coating on it.

I got it to work...just required a little (and buy a little I mean alot) of finesse, adjusting and slightly bigger washers....not exactly confidence inspiring, but im sure it will work..if not oh well:meh:

what a crude piece of *** of a design...would it hurt to use the stock manifold as a template..

Not defending Tri-Mil at all.

The early F and 2F's have a different bolt pattern than the FJ60 2F's. It is very, very close but not exact. If you were to put a 3 piece exhaust on an earlier F or 2F you would have to file the middle set of holes out in the manifold just a bit to make it work.

Yes, the Jt one is a tri-mil. It came with a coating, but I heard it was junk so I scuffed it with a scotchbrite and gave it some coats of header paint. However, the stock coating just flaked off upon warm-up; carrying the header paint with it

Dan, why do you say this?
Is there a different gasket or fasteners for FJ60?

What is "3 piece intake"?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Three peice exhaust manifold. :o

If you put a FJ60 manifold on an older 40 you have to file the holes out a little bit so it fits. At least I have had too.

Same gaskets.

Does this work?

No, that will not work for header paint. It turns black & crinkles up after one good highway run.

Not that I would try it or anything... :o

The same company makes a high-heat header paint that's good to 1500F. I've used it in silver color. Works pretty good on bare metal.
