Not saying this is the most difficult wrenching I’ve ever done... But it truly is a pain in the butt. Replacing the radiator on a late 80 Series requires a ton of removals. Disassembly is done, now to reassemble.

Not sure if this is the original radiator... I seem to recall my dad replacing the original with a cheap U.S.A. version. I’m putting a Toyota in, of course.

The 60 and 80 series could have been designed a little better for easier removal, for sure. I have to replace the one in Magnum. The one that's in there now is a used one I got from JP at Marshals first parts swap. It likes to heat up when I wheel or driving around town with the a/c on.

So, after replacing the radiator, water pump, and fan clutch, the 80 is still running hot. I have a replacement thermostat already, but unfortunately, Toyota didn't include the gasket... So it's on order. Also, after replacement, I'm leaking coolant. From the heater control valve. I never touched the heater control valve. OH well, no time like the present to resolve such issues! Big puddle under the 80 right now, but the truck needs to be used around town, so I'll have to monitor the coolant level and temperature in the mean time.

What temperature are you seeing in the 60 around town?

It would normally run at around 1/4 of the guage, but at times it runs to past 1/2.
Haven't checked the temp, but I know the guage is working.
The 40 also started to do the same thing, I'll have to replace the thermostat in it. Everything else is new.

the resistor mod for the temp gauge make it alot more accurate. have you checked your fan clutch? i was having the same problems, but came out to be the headgasket. i still havent gotten lextech to do the head gasket.

David, I think the 1FZ-FE "blue" clutch will work on the 3FE. Do you want me to hold on to this for you? There's nothing wrong with the one I just pulled off my truck.

Sure, I'll take it. Thanks

Well it was about time, after talking about it for over a year I finally rebuilt front axle on the troopy this weekend. Not a difficult task but surely a messy one that just takes patience. Got kit with bearings from Kurt at cruiser outfitters. Very complete and thorough instructions with kit for those that haven’t done this.

Dude! I have 2 old trucks that need this done; I would’ve gone over and helped! 40 has all parts required. I just need to get the contractors out of the house so I can have the driveway back... Anyhow, nice job! So you’ll be driving the Troopy more often?

I'll need to do that on the Chick'n at some time also.
Not leaking yet, but it looks like it's been a looooong time.

I replaced the starter on the 62 today.
I thought I had replaced it at some point, apparently not.
Alternator is next, probably tomorrow.
Hopefully I can get the Chick'n down tomorrow to mount the new km3's.

Replaced heater control hose, no more leaky coolant. Super easy job.
Replaced thermostat, temperatures are now at 181* when driving on the highway. Big improvement from 216*.
Started to replace fuel filter... Access is tougher than it looks and it looks tough... Will try again later.
Lost a control arm bolt at OTMT but didn't have any damage, luckily. Replacement control arm bolts are on the way from Deo.
