Would you save up for a BJ70 or BJ73

Whats your budget? You can get a rusty but driveable bj70 for under 10K or you can get a really good condition bj70 for maybe 20k-ish. OR possibly even buy a 70 and turbo it later down the road? Personally, I would get the idea of having a automatic out of your head . Part of the experience I think is having a manual trans. But, to each their own! Oh and finding a good one could take some time. It took me a couple years of non stop searching to find something that met my needs. GL

G'day Fella's,

Kevinh, I found that the my previous TLC Bundera, SWB didn't have much room inside.
I sold it and then bought a new BJ73 (1990), and that extra Foot/300mm of space, made all the difference.
Still very manouverable in tight places in the bush, but the 3B engine is at times, short on power, so it's a comprmise.

Hope that helps

D'oh!

the 73/74 windshield is a fold down design. So, if it gets to rusting bad enough, you can buy a new one and just replace the rusty one with the new one :)
Some (if not all the 73s) you may not be able to fold the windshield as they do not all have bumpers, latches or the right wiper arms to actually fold it down for operation.

They still fold down though making it easier to replace. The 7* series windscreen looks odd folded down because it is curved. I dont think Toyota were thinking so much about the joys of having wind in your face, more about easy rebuilding or being able to rest an anti aircraft/tank gun barrel across the dash.
Its only the post 98 models that lost the fold down windscreen although there are pics showing 79 series with fold down windscreens on North African military 79 series
