yeah, ill be selling my 2014 toyota sienna to buy it. 3 year depreciation on that van was 13k, which is the price I'm paying for the LX. durn, live and learn.

Most things discussed in these threads are preventive. Battery cables, heater T. I'll add that starter and alternator could also be replaced preventatively if you have no record of their replacement when buying a new to you truck. Go one further and replace the ignition inner shaft and you basically are bulletproof.

Our land cruiser is my wife's daily driver and we take it all over death valley exploring gold mines and secluded camping spots.

I want another one also, an LX. I'll do the same preventive maintenance and keep a watchful eye. A watchful eye is needed on any car, 5 miles or 500k miles.

Damn broken ignition rod...the one time my LC has ever left me stranded. Mine's getting the preventative alternator, radiator and master cylinder rebuild in the next month or so.

Absolutely. Keep them lubed, keep them clean and they'll run forever.
Pretty simple. Oil every 5k and keep them clean under the hood. Dirt holds moisture and grime. Moisture causes corrosion. Grime attracts and holds more dirt compounding a bad situation. Dirt is abrasive; it will remove material like paint and metal between two rubbing surfaces. And then moisture will do its part.

I wouldn't buy any used vehicle with relatively high mileage and just take off across the country, but for a local Daily Driver you can't go wrong with a L/C or LX.

I'd baseline all the fluids, check all belts and hoses, make sure the cooling system is working well and drive it.

I would definitely check the heater hose Tee's and fully expect to replace them. IF the starter has never been replaced, it could possibly give you a problem, BUT they tend to give you some 'warning'. Most of them will 'click' several times, then start the vehicle for awhile before they actually fail. Even then, its just the contacts more often than not.

Timing belt should be replaced every 100K.

Built for 3rd world countries......pretty sure it's capable of grocery getter on its worst day :steer:

Growing up in Colombia I saw many (at least 20 from my friends) "YOta's" with more than a 1.000.000 kilometers, yes we have pavement on most roads, but the potholes can be massive and sometimes fire roads are the only choice when you need to get out of somewhere in a hurry....

"Mechanics", well I will take any vehicle (Not mega computer controlled) to one of this old school gear heads, so resourceful, master metalustist, welders/re-bender's/oil analysis, so very smart, but most without a clue about reading (In the 80's) much less reading manuals en Ingles, part numbers what...?? you have "Dona Maria" down the street that knows a guy, what...

As a joke and to get some free Cervezas for my humble friends, I will take the geeks of my University (to teach some of this guys a lesson too) with their fancy "Beam" torque wrenches and scientific calculators and this "mecanicos" will win every bet in how spot on the bolts were torqued (just by hands, adjustable wrenches, even with breaker bars, warp heads, no such a big deal, yes they will shave them on a clap out bridgeport (sometimes even by hand with files, using a big flat piece of glass for reference, or thermally "de-warp" them (massive home made 60 ton press'es with a torch and some old engine oil), but many times they torque the bolts by "Feel" and they will not leak or at least not much..

So many stories, I learn so much from them..

Old Toyota son la Bomba..!!

Oh my wife grow up right in from of lake Minnetonka (in Minneapolis) and was doing power slides on ice since she was ten, she may not be travis pastrana but she is close, hell of a driver, no matter the circumstances and understand mechanical objects and tools better than most too.

No need to baseline the fluids... lexus did it for me. the dealer 20 miles from me serviced the truck its entire life. if you look at what the dealer does, its crazy!

Yes. No issues. Way better than most new cars and little to no deprecation

I don't understand how this is even a question.

Check this one out by me 1999 on eBay with 60k miles!
Lexus: LX

WOAH! Whoever gets that for under 20k is getting a steal.

OP- My wife drives our 2 1/2 year old and 15 month old around (both since they were born) in a 2005 with 129k on it. I understand that's half the mileage, but same situation...it was dealer maintained it's whole life. Once it left her stranded, in our garage...culprit was a 6 year old battery. Other than that, it's been perfect. As others have stated, these vehicles will rust out before they wear out mechanically. The problem will be, once your wife gets used to that level of vehicle there is no going back.
