so in my hunt i found another 80 that perhaps may be what i am looking for.
premise : i just sold my 60. lady-friend is prego, she wanted a cruiser that was newer and more comfortable ( read: functional cold a/c, no rust, more dependable ) she hated riding in the 60 with no a/c on the way to a wedding, then watching me fiddle with the carb for 30 mins when we tried to leave.
so far i'm come across a few 80s locally and passed on them due to previous major repair work being done to them, but not being reported.
i've recently found another. it's a 93. locked, 170K. tail light guards, damage multiplier up front, terrible aftermarket side steps. no accident history, no bondo, checked paint thickness all over. headgasket done at 147K. phh done. brakes done 7K ago, good service records, no accidents that i can tell. 3 owner vehicle.
never offroaded, guy was using it to tow a tiny crabbing boat.
there are normal scuffs, etc on the truck. the front axle needs to be rebuilt, it is weeping, but not caked. judging by the rest of the truck, which is a little dirty, it hasn't been cleaned and scrubbed to hide serious seepage. the leather is looking a bit thin, but i'd just throw some seat covers on it.
the guy will take 3500 for the truck.
my plan is to install a 4" lift, run 35s, bumpers, sliders. i want to make it into a DD/beach truck/family hauler. The wife is on board and i have a budget ( she knows i want 35s etc etc ) and i get to keep my 40 ( like she had a choice
) i know that i've asked about other 80s before, so please excuse my redundancy, but i've been finding trucks locally that are all over the map price-wise ( between 3500 and 13K with not much visible difference in quality or usage.
TIA
Dave
