I was in an accident today. Thank God everybody was ok. A car three cars in front of me rearended another car and it started a chain reaction. You can see from my photos that it was a big hit. Just looking at the pics is my FJ62 totaled? Is this mostly cosmetic or a major fix? From the looks underneath most of the impact took place above the frame. Where do I start to get parts for this thing? I'm in Austin, Tx. Thanks

Wow! that was a big hit. from the looks of it more metal then frame. Start taking it apart and asses the damage.
hood,lt fender,inner fender,radiator support,valance panel,and all the trim accessories.
check the left spring and perch also tie rod ends. you may be able to find parts in the Classifieds in the "Parting out" section.
Good luck, hope you can save her.
glad no one was hurt.

That could definitely bend a frame, rendering the truck totalled. There is a good thread on here titled wrecked today on the interstate which details the fight with an owners insurance co. Be prepared...

Ughhhhhh. Sorry man.
Don't know anything about estimating damage - or fixing it for that matter, but glad you're ok. Hope things work out for you.

Ouch. that is a very solid hit and could have frame damage. If there is no frame damage, it actually wouldn't be too hard to repair.

I am local so if you want to fix it up, I have all of the parts. Or if you want to sell it as-is, I'd be interested too. email me and we can discuss more

That looks about the same shape mine was in when I bought it. Except for the hood, my hood was in good shape.
I replaced the radiator support inner and outer fender, spring , bumper, drivers side lights. My frame was good and everything else was fine. I bought everything but the bumper off here in the classifieds from great people . I got a bumper local .
Then painted it and put it together myself for under a thousand.

Good luck its worth fixing as far as im concerned

X2 for Cruiseryard. They are just North of Austin in Leander.
Looks very similar to my damage that happened Nov '06. Jorge's list sounds like a good starting point. I had to find a new pulley for the smog pump. Be sure and check the left side spring. Mine had a major warp from the impact. My computer w/ the pictures of my damage is down, but I don't think my damage came quite as far back. I had an OEM bumper at the time and it had to be pulled off the wheel to be able to move it. Looks like your bumper saved a lot of damage.
As long as the frame is square, you should be able to replace the sheet metal.

Ouch! Glad to hear nobody was hurt.. Still go to a doctor just to make sure.. Impacts like that at times can cause pain later on.
Have it checked if the frame was damaged or not. If not should be pretty easy to get parts to repair it.

When I replaced the front body parts on my '89 FJ62 (it had similar but much less severe damage) I used the parts from my spare parts '84 FJ60. If you have trouble easily finding FJ62 parts, especially the headlight trim, etc., consider using FJ60 parts and switch over to round headlights :-). Many parts are common. I found that the inner fenders are different, but required very slight modifications in order to attach miscellaneous mounting brackets.

It sure appears the front of the frame is bent down and back. If that's the case, it's probably time to move on. Too bad, it looks like a very nice FJ62.

Once upon a time that would not have totalled it. (My truck was in a similar accident.)

With the cost of (& lack of ) replacement parts, as well as today's labor rates, I don't see how it wouldn't be totalled.

If the interior and the rest of the truck are as in as good of shape as the body looks to be, its next best use is probably as a donor for a restoration project.

I got a very clean 62 frame and I'm local if you need it.

No it's not. It's totaled.

Unfortunately, I would have to agree, that looks totaled to me, but it looks like a LOT of good parts on there that are worth $$$. Good luck dealing with insurance, that might be more painful than the impact.

It depends on what you want to do. You have some power when it comes to insurance claims. Looking at that pic, the adjusters first move will be to total it and give you money for another cruiser. If you want it totaled and start over, then the only issue is haggling with the insurance company on how much money you want for it. If you want to fix it and not have it totalled, then you can tell the insurance adjuster you want it written up for the maximum he can for your vehicle without totaling it and he will write you as big a check as he can for repairs. I did this with my rig when it got hail damage, I was real chill and cool with the adjuster, and so he was likewise with me. Once you get the check you would then have to take it to a frame shop, then buy a front clip from someone and go to town on it after you get the frame fixed. If you did it that way you would avoid a salvage title which would greatly reduce the value compared to if you had it totaled, bought it back and then repaired. A salvage title also affects how you can insure it in the future.

My guess is your insurance is going to want to total it. Search for a thread within the last 6 months were a guy went through the same thing and fought like hell with his insurance company but came away with a lot more money and the title to his truck.

Pretty much anything can be repaired, but you may end up with a salvage title, depending on how your State works.

Good luck.
