Wood trim 60/62 on Pleasantburg

I met this couple who owned it many years ago and the guy was selling it for $3k. Really neat couple. The guy worked for Alpine Ski center during the winter tuning up skis and snowboards. I had the money and placed it down with only 100k on the clock and the guy backed out saying that he already promised it to someone else. I saw this same couple in PetSmart about a year later with my wife and we pulled our 60 up to it and saw the guy. He almost wet himself and finally told me that they just did not want to sell it. I got a call last year about it and he was selling it again for the same $3k. Well, long story short, the guy cut me out again and apparently sold it to a friend that was close to them. When i drove it I realized that it was a POS and needed a lot of work, but the wood is factory and was in alright condition. Just one side needed the touch up. It had absolutely NO power though and these were some of the most powerful. I would try flooring the gas and would get up to 35 maybe. The guy claimed that "it did that sometimes." I still wanted it though, but now we're happy with the next purchase after that one which was our 1973 fj55. a beauty. oh well . . . but all in all, it is factory. No more stories for me! haha

dsa,
This may not be the same 62 because this wasn't owned by a couple. I came across this in January of this year and bought it 2 weeks later. Hardly know the lady. Sure wouldn't say we are close. It had not been advertised for sale. The lady really didn't want to sell it but it was just sitting and she needed the money. I'll be the first to admit that mine needs some work but there aren't many out there that don't. Sure there are some that are in pristine condition. Were they that way when they were bought? Most of them were not. I would argue that part of the "fun" in having a cruiser is working on it and making it nice. I think of it as an investment. When it's right and IF I ever sell it you can bet it will go for more than the $2k I paid for it or the $3k that was on the one you wanted to buy. You may say it's a POS (and it's not) but it's my first cruiser and I'm damn proud to own it and drive it!!

Lol, I hear ya. Now everyone is jumping in.

How about cutting him some slack.

Sorry I misquoted the milage Slick. Everytime I see a cruiser I make an effort to talk to the owner. I'm sure I'm getting my coversations crossed. I've seen you getting on 385 from Butler several times, but because of traffic at 5ish i've never been able to flag you down.

Hope you have fun with it!

Would LOVE to find a pig to work on. Keep your eyes peeled for a cheap one.

Whoa there, steady on mate. I'm not sure you know what you're letting yourself in for here.
Best talk to your therapist a bit about this leaning. He might be able to steer you to the appropriate 12 step group.
At least read through a few hundred pages of FJ55 Resto posts.

Hey now Bill, the care and pampering of a :pig: is a labor of love! Yes, those of us with our feet firmly stuck in the sty might need some therapy, but what we really want is a bag of money to throw at our swine.

Slick, oink. I'll keep my eyes open for a :pig: down here. They do show up from time to time. What would your intentions be for said FJ55? If you plan on restoration that is a completely different animal than trail pig.

And for the record, I like the wood. Reminds me of our car growing up and makes me a bit nostalgic.

Riding backwards in the old station wagon hehe.

Boombapslappy,

If you saw that 62 going from Butler to 385, that would be me. I work off of Butler. Haven't talked to anyone about it but flag me down if you can. Would love to shoot the breeze. I get gas at that Spinx station a good bit or at least stop for a cup of coffee most mornings.

K9,
Just a driver for now. Probably for restoration. I can do a little bit at a time. So to start off with... a driver maybe on the weekends. Just would love to own one. They look awesome!

Have to say I like the wood grain look too. Don't see too many like that. Makes it unique.

Slick, I work for the Boy Scouts. Our office is behind the NHC just on the Mauldin side of 385. Stop by any time. I'm there all the time *long sigh*. It'd be great to meet you. Plenty of places to have lunch around there. Shoot me a pm and we'll oogle cruisers!

Wow! ouch! Just to let you know, I'm writing this in complete contentment. The reason that I downed that 62 was because I was pushed back and forth between these people and toyed around with. I don't think that it is fair for someone to agree to a price, me get ready to hand them a check, and then them back out of it . . . TWICE, and then they say that someone was going to buy it in their church when I saw them again the next month and asked about it . . . ESPECIALLY when this process had been going on for a while, insurance was just waiting on the title to be signed over, and my funds had started flushing out for several parts on the wood and interior necessities. Also, if that isn't your cruiser that I'm talking about then why are you so aggressive in your wording. I can definitely understand buying a "first" and putting up such a great fight against everyone else bashing it when I say that it is my pride and joy. I still have my "first" 1987 fj60 and it is nearly pristine now other than the rest of the body work needed with 2 dents. No, of course most were not perfect when they were bought. Mine weren't. And yes, that is the fun of getting them and then rebuilding them, BUT the one i drove had a lot of issues that I wanted to fix . . . by the way, do you have on the passenger front door any major dents with the wood trim coming off? just wondering b/c do remember that I NEVER said that it was THE cruiser I was going to buy . . . I just said that I was certain that it could have been. Just know that I love you in the brotherhood of the cruisers and hope that you are able to enjoy yours as much as I have mine. I love woody cruisers and I respect ALL cruisers no matter the condition. You can't find a better vehicle than a land cruiser. Thanks!

also slick, did you purchase the woody with that sticker on the back bumper?

dsc,
If this is the cruiser, the lady never mentioned to me about another buyer. I would never undercut anyone over anything. And I am not saying you are accusing me of that. I agree that it is wrong to agree to sell something to someone and then back out. If that was the case, then I'm sorry. But I had nothing to do with it. I wish you the best.

thanks slick! also, i'd love to see this woody sometime! i've always loved them and the one we were going to buy was for my wife. here are some of the pictures that I have of the one that we were going to buy. see if it's the same one. if so then i may be of some help in case the accelerator is not doing so well as it was not on the one that i drove and also i found a place that has the wood trim factory but it costs a good bit. anyway, let me know. in case you want more info or pics that i have (if it's the same one) then e-mail me at dsa03cjj@gmail.com. happy cruisin'!

dsc,
That is the cruiser I bought. The decals on the rear glass are a dead give away. LOL No indication from her that there was a buyer already. Would not have done you wrong. I wasn't brought up that way.
Anyhow, I drive her everyday (on 385) and she accelerates fine. Haven't had any trouble so far. I did replace the starter, put a factory antenna on it and removed the decals. She needed some TLC and I'm going to slowly but surely give it to her.
Email on the way.

that's great slick! glad to hear that she is doing great. there are not many woodys around here and that one was absolutely beautiful with the lighter tan, wood trim, and brown interior . . . that is why we wanted it, but i am very sure that it is in great hands now. also, with the investment that we were going to put into that one and the money left over after buying then reselling parts, we bought a 1973 fj55 . . . we love her to death. you need to see it sometime. completely redone now except for paint job. 8k on the engine rebuilt! anyway, i'm going to check my e-mail now and get back with you as soon as i can . . . it's been a miracle that i've been able to get on as much as i have, haha. so take care of the 62, i know you will . . . and if you ever get a notion to sell it, just let me know . . . but i know that she'll be yours for a long while . . . the first always is!

wow, that cruiser has been around here for a while it seems . . . i'd like to know some more info on it's past

Eventhough,
Sorry I didn't see you. :whoops: I would have waved. I try to be friendly when I can. :D I am on Pleasantburg a good bit. What day and about what time?

Marshall,
I found that same picture when I first bought her. Looks like it was taken at Paris Mountain State Park. I wondered how old the pic is. She don't look too bad in the pic. Maybe I can get the ol' 62 to shine like that again some day.
