One advantage to the Lexus, no fake stick-on wood trim :D

My mother got the fake wood stickon kit for her LS430...it looks so tacky. There was just the right amount of wood trim from the factory.

I just really don't like fake wood in a vehicle. I agree with Loud the micro thin real wood on the Lexus doesn't bother me as for the LS430 we have owned 2 of them and I cannot imagine adding a "wood" kit to them. I do like wood steering wheels as they tend to hold up well.

What did she cover in wood? I can't think of place to add wood that doesn;t already have it.

I agree about the wood wheel. My GS430 wheel has held up extremely well compare to the TLC.

I just spent a couple hours today removing every bit of the factory optional wood trim and could not be more happy that stuff is gone!

for the window switch panels, do you just pry them off or will that do too much damage? I was going to take the faux wood off today

For the switch panels first pop out the entire panel from the door, disconnect the plug, and then it's much easier to work with in your hands. The wood trim wraps around the edges of the panel so you need to pry between the two. I found it easy to do with a cheap 2" plastic putty knife from Home Depot.

Mine didn;t. It took lots of heat, goof off, etc. Be careful on the console, my console is made from a painted plastic polymer. The paint peel off when removing the sticky tape. I had to wet sand and repaint.

I'm sorry, but you must have had a car that went through some serious heat and the double sided tape cured way too much to the paint. Mine was a PNW car that only sees 2-3 months of decent heat each year, so the tape was still very fresh. A used a little bit of heat and then it peeled right off by hand. The bigger sections of tape I used a plastic putty knife to push through the tape and peel it back.

One question, does anyone recall what surface is underneath the fake wood surface for the radio and HVAC controls? Also, what about the trim surrounf rear vent controls? I still need to remove fake wood in these areas. I don't want to remove if it's a painted surface.

Depends on what year the LC is, the dash pieces changed slightly over the years.

My 2004, the center console around the shifters is a satin silver finish. That is surrounded by a flat black finish. The area around the cig lighter and ash tray is a textured black finish. The vents on the right and left of the NAV unit are flat black, same finish as the center console surround. The NAV, radio, and HVAC controls are satin silver. I can take a picture if you would like to see it without all the wood trim.

No thank you. I pulled it off today. What a pain. Even with 85+ degree heat, heater, blow drier, etc, it was a pain. The trims separated into three layers, fake wood, paperish layer, then the stcky tape. Wood came off easily, but other two layers were a pain. I still need to do some cleanup to remove the residue.

FYI, the tranny surround and mirror/vent window surrounds were painted so any chemicals remove paint. The radio, HVAC, vents, windows and cupholder trim is not painted, so they turned out OK.

All over the radio and hvac controls, shifter trim, vents...meh. Then again I envy the LC owners and their black plastic...I don't lime the wood except the s.wheel

Does anyone have photos of the interior after they removed the wood grain pieces?

Also, if anyone actually replaced it with some nice stuff, I would like to see photos and know where you bought it. I did a search and found a few threads on this, but none of them current with links that actually worked.

TIA!

LOL. I was in the middle of installing a radio. (note: those flip face radios do not fit and trimming the top of the bezel only make the center cluster squeak. I had to replace it at around $100 and install a regular dual din)

34 posts about wood dash replacement and still not a single photo!

bueller, bueller??!?!?!? Anyone with actual pics of the the replacement stuff they used?

Thanks!

There are a bunch of listings like this on ebay....

Wondering if anyone has used this or something similar.

Rob - are you saying most people just remove it and be done with it?? The one I am buying has faded and peeling wood trim, so I'd like to either replace or remove. Sounds like removing might peel up some paint in some of the areas.

Removed our wood stickies too. Black plastic underneath. Tried to spray paint it black satin but it turned out horrible. Not sure what to do now :-/

Here are a couple before and after (removal of fake wood) pics. For the money, one of the best mods I've done.
