Hi all,
I’ve read Roamer’s old posts on figuring out his daughter’s starting issue and the helpful trouble shooting guide and all linked posts as far as I know but am struggling with my 97 LX450
Background -
Car is semi daily driver, so gets regular use each week. Don’t know if there is a connection but mentioning just in case. Pulled the console (with bass speaker) to replace with a Tuffy box but drive it for several days with a big empty space before i could get back to the project. Saturday rolls around and i jump into the rig to move it and install the tuffy but no start, no click, no sound. Grab the battery charger without checking but no difference. Additionally the tranny stays locked even with foot on brake and ignition on. Brake lights work as does all other lights, horn and lockers. Also when i turn the key to starting position/ on the aircon is fully on and will not turn off if i press the off button. It will stop while i hold the off button but turns on again as soon as i release. Checking the trans locker i see no voltage to the solenoid in start position. Until now no issues starting at all. I replaced the starts some years ago but no indication of failing leading up to today.
As far as I can tell the console harness is only related to the stereo so i am at a loss as to what is wrong or what im missing.
Any hints?

Thanks

Did you touch the ground under the center console?

The Park/Neutral safety switch is also there, which could have become unplugged..

Could be the factory alarm giving you issues if you still have it. Start with Chad king the wiring like said above the NSS would prevent the starter from engaging if it’s not hooked up or a broken wires.

Thanks to both. Alarm was removed years ago. Will check and come back

Ok just to be clear is NSS same as shift lock control switch? Trying to find it in FSM

I dont see any disconnects in the harness. Unplugged and reconnected each in pic

Ok thanks for the hint. As stated in OP i had read the guide and used it to eliminate fusible links and relays, which is why i mentioned horns lights etc working. Somehow though i missed the basic 15A ignition fuse by the drivers knee. That was bad. Replaced and everything starts and works as normal.
Anything to watch out for that might have caused the blown fuse?

Yes. I was in a rush and had to leave so it was a super quick reply.

In the FSM, it is called a "PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SW"

Glad you found the issue.

Unsure about Fuse, but Print a copy and put in Glovebox or Seatback. Comes in Handy.

@Pamlico : Sorry if I missed it, but what actually happens when you turn the ignition key?
Crank and no start?
No crank?
Click click click?
Check engine/MIL light comes on briefly when the ignition key is first turned to ON?

Agree. Did that before I made the first post :)

So turn the key, dash lights, aircon, radio, etc. all normal, but no click or starter / solenoid sound and no crank.

Funny thing is that before the issue ABS light was on. After I replaced the 15A ignition fuse inside the car, the car starts normally, aircon turns on and off, AND the ABS light is off. Go figure.....

Thanks all for your interest and help. Sometimes the smallest prompt is all it takes to find the solution.
