Indeed. Since that was written, the knuckle job moved up the list and has since been completed. And since I have had a hand on my nutz, I now check them regularly because...well I've touched them and the huggers were not employed. (shame on me)For issues like this, the frequency of the issue popping up has to be weighed against the consequences. It may be a rare issue, but if the consequence is a knuckle falling off in the middle of nowhere (or worse losing a wheel on the highway), prudence dictates caution. Same reason if you ever buy a 1g taco or a 3g 4runner, very first thing you should do is replace the lower ball joints with OEM unless you have records. I usually check before a roadtrip that will involve wheeling. I have found a loose nut I think twice in several years. To me that's evidence enough that it's worth it to check.
Bought a set of these a while back. Tossed em in the parts box for the next rebuild.
Rebuilt the front axle this weekend including all new knuckle hardware, nuts, washers and cones. New brakes all around and buttoned everything up.
Found these in the parts box last night and went
Debating pulling the inner 2 nuts on each knuckle and putting 1 hugger on each side before i drop it off the jacks.
Who's running these on all 4 sets vs 1 hugger on each side? I assumed just 1 set vs 2 when i ordered thinking it'd be more of a security at least the wheel won't flop scenario.
I'll toss em on tonightdont debate. Just two two nuts at a time to add these and retorque. No harm.
Does mean they will be available soon?I love my old laser guy back in LA. But I’m trying to stay local in my small depressed city of Medford. No one does fiber laser work that I would need to engrave (not just etch) on steel.
So what to do? Well I can remember one of the local news stories about a local jeweler taking in all the damaged jewelry from the Talent/Phoenix fire last year. This jeweler was closed due to covid but they came in just to repair/clean the jewelry salvageable from the fire. Turns out it was a lot. In the short video was a quick shot of the engraver jig. *lightbulb*
I went and talked to the lady that does the actual engraving to see if she was interested in working on my wackiness. She was all to happy to have the business and I was all to happy to keep it local.
Am I paying laser prices? No. But it’s not too bad and she can work with my timeline. There is hope for me yet!
