Did you know that early 80Series got a black shift lock button on the shifter console? Cool right? The later 80s were denied. Did you know that the JDM 80s not only came with the button but they are RED?! Yeah thats not fair. So we went ahead and machined a new button from red Delrin and pressed in a red Garolite machined shaft so that we had the components needed to add the shift lock button to your 80 with JDM flair.

Why add the button? So that you don't risk losing the little cap AND so you don't have to hunt around to find something long and skinny to stick in there to activate the shift lock. If you've ever worked on your dash or your carpet then you can already visualize how freaking cool this is.

This neat red button did indeed come with my 1995 HDJ81 - I've used it a few times and it's super handy to have. Another great addition to the Wits' End catalog!

For those that are unaware: on the off chance you do need to push that BIG RED BUTTON to get your vehicle in gear, it may mean you have a brake light out. Or it may be some intermittent switch error like I'm currently having in my '90 HDJ81 with the factory red button, and factory power folding mirrors, and factory fridge with ice maker and probably some other stuff

This noted scenario happened to me. This was in Baja with the family while blocking a vehicle gate near San Francisquito. This would have truly sucked if more folks needed to get around us (our 80 plus camp trailer) in an actual busy area...we were "stuck" for several minutes with the rig (of course) not willing to shift out of Park. It took a couple minutes for me to remember how the shift lock circuit functions. Once I remembered the circuit I figured it was a fuse. I was correct. I then replaced the failed fuse for the brake light circuit (the rig then shifted out of Park like normal) and we were on our way. My GF thought I was awesome for figuring it out, but I was stressed for a minute.
