I thought I had a bad starter but was wrong.

It looks like everything is connected right but when I connect the juice and turn on the key nothing happens.

Where should I start trouble shooting?

I tested the starter. It is good.

Mj FJ is a 74. It has the single F motor but the 4 speed tranny.

How did you test it?... You need to see if your getting power to your starter solenoid. Solenoid might be mounted on the fender, or does it have the gear reduction starter with the solenoid on it? Get out a test light and see if you getting power to the small wire the starter or on the solenoid while somebody trys to start it.

battery hooked up?

Yea - is your battery charged, hooked up and is everything grounded?

As mentioned before, check your main grounds and then check for power at the starter solenoid connector.

if you are using a stock fuse panel/harness go through all your connectors.. mainly the fuse box itself and clean them all with a wire brush/little bit of sandpaper to get nice shiny copper - i had the same problem as you.. solved by cleaning all my connections.

Before you follow antFJ's advise, make sure the battery is disconnected or the brush could connect the sides of an unswitched socket and bring sparks

I thought ground problem. Fuse panel looks like crap. I will go through that shortly.

all great suggestions.
