I've discovered four small rust spots at the top edge of my windshield seal. I pulled the rubber back from one and found flaky rust underneath. I've been planning to repaint my roof in Raptor anyway, so these jobs are now combined into one, and it's the next thing on my list. I'm planning to get a new, factory seal, and I'm looking for a shop that will adhere to the FSM and use the latest, correct chemicals. I'm planning to do the rust repair myself, unless it's rusted through, in which case I will probably send it to a body shop. This is my plan - please advise anything I should do differently.

  1. Remove trim etc. per FSM
  2. Shop removes glass and seal
  3. Pray for no rust-through
  4. Clean/scrape old adhesive - recommend an adhesive remover
  5. Sand to clean metal
  6. Apply Evapo-Rust to clean metal
  7. Prime with Raptor 2k primer
  8. Paint with black paint and/or Raptor
  9. Back to shop for new glass and seal
Step 8 - will Raptor on the windshield lip cause leak issues? It's probably marginally easier to tape for spraying Raptor across the top lip, but if it's a leak risk, I'll tape it the hard way and use paint.
