A 100 series Land Cruiser is not a normal install, the mirror is a special mount, aftermarket glass will not have the correct bracket. The side moldings will never fit correctly if reused and most companies will not use rivets to reinstall the new moldings. Using screws in new holes will eventually rust...
Had mine done last week, all OEM and fully covered by State Farm, dealer had it done $1,500.00 done right. If you go cheep, be prepared for new wind noise, rust in the frame in five years, a rear view mirror that moves on the mount, and a windshield that is approximately 2mm thinner than the OEM.
These windshield are well documented with State Farm, you just have to have them do some historical digging on other clames and they will come to your side.
Good luck
I see some signs of rust on heads of wiper arm mount bolts. But none around windshield area. I'm very interested in the history of your 100, I assume is a 99LC w/117K.View attachment 1572591 View attachment 1572592 Zoom in and inspect the rivets on the post!
So was glass in when you bought Lexus (again assuming) windshield glass?Good eye, there was a small spot of surface rust on that corner and on one of the lower corners as well. This truck was buried under 14" of pine straw and dirt for eight years from sitting under a forest of pine trees. That is why I figured the windshield had those two ares. Truck is a true southern Atlanta truck with all dealer records up until it was parked.
On the good side the interior is mint, the downside is the paint on the top of the truck is trashed....
Anyway, there were three reasons State Farm finally folded and spent the money on an all OEM replacement.
1. Rear view mirror mount is wrong on the aftermarket glass I inspected and refused to let them use it. (State Farm offered to buy a cheap new standard rear view mirror. I laughed at the appraiser and asked if he was joking.)
2. I read in a periodical that glass on a Land cruiser windshield was 4 mm thicker. ( Told State Farm that if the truck was altered structurally and below standard parts were used they are opening them selves up to liability.)
3. There are two tabs on the top of an OEM windshield that are used to secure something that are not there on the aftermarket glass.
It took a week of arguing going threw their approval process but I eventually prevailed.
I had to visit my local agent and have them push it through, I always complain to them my premiums are high and they say these trucks are more expensive to fix. I reminded them of that statement and said, hay guys this is why I pay these high premiums. Fix it right or you are fired!
The squeaky wheel gets the grease!
..
I I also have never pulled a factory install, so don't know if factory would have that "overage".
Good job on being a "squeaky wheel".
Nope never even seen a factory windshield pulled. In Colorado we replace ever 3 to 7 years.OOO, this is why you replied the way you did, lol. I wasn't sure. I thought for sure you had pulled apart a factory wind screen.
