Any know anyone they trust to do windshields on 100 series here in Lynchburg? I have been working on getting my 100 ready to get on the trails and one of the last hurdles is a new windshield. Found rust behind the other one and had to repair it all. Don't want it to happen again from being incorrectly installed so thought I would reach out to you guys to see if you knew anyone that comes to your home.

Thank you!

I just asked a family member who lives close if he has any thoughts. No LC experiences, but he like the Safelite in town and a friend of his likes Apple Autoglass. I hope that helps. FWIW, I used a Safelite here in Charlotte NC for my LX470. They did great and even sent me some pics of the frame when they removed the glass. They knew the problem areas and wanted to show me I had none. They also paid for my Uber home 14 miles!

Thank you for that. I did find one guy that says he has LC experience, but he is very hard to get a hold of. I have used Safelite for my F150 and I was impressed by them. They had an issue and had the windshield crack a bit, guy was very straight forward and talked to me about it. Had a new one to me the next day installed. They are the easiest and quickest to get out here. The windshield is out and all the prep work has been done and all new parts ordered so should be straight forward. Plus they offer OEM windshields. Makes me feel better someone else has had good experiences too. Thank you!

I just had Safelite do the repair on my 100 last month. I had a leak in my headliner traced to poor install of the previous windshield (previous owner had it replaced) and had a few cracks in it. I did have to purchase new mouldings and rivets - the mouldings because the old ones has been glued in place instead of properly installed, and the rivets because Safelite does not carry the ones for the 100 windshield, and they were going to use sheet metal screws instead. That'd be my only caveat. I am pleased with the job they did and would recommend.

Good to hear. Yeah the previous owner had the windshield replaced at some point and the installers used only two rivets and just urethane the rest. That allowed a lot of water to get in places it shouldn't have. I pulled the windshield and had to do a lot of rust repair. I bought all new moldings and rivets. Makes me feel better they can do the job. Thanks for that!

Also had a lot of rust myself! Sounds like you are straight and have all you need for it

Well I got to say.. and I may be jumping the gun here.. but I thank you for recommending Safelite here in town. Been a bit of a roller coaster. Guy came out yesterday and was so confused that I had my glass out was trying to tell me the moldings go on before. I had the FSM and all the OEM parts there to show him and I told him I didn't think he was the guy for the job :bang:. He point blank told me he knew they had rivets and was planning on using screws, and that he thought he could put in from behind the A-pillar!! I told him to cancel the order and told him he wouldn't be touching it (this after he was late). He told me up and down no one there could do it and that its not possible to do with rivets. I think if I handed him a stuffed squirrel and told him to put glass in it he wouldn't have been any more confused than he was.. They redeemed themselves today. Apparently that guy was helping out from NY. They apologized and told me there were 4 guys there that were very familiar with doing Land Cruisers and one is very experienced. They are going to try to come out today. Talking with them I am very confident they will get this right and seem highly motivated to do so.

Oh man. I am sorry about that run around and hope things turned out better the second time around. He definitely did not know what he was talking about...

Sounds like we may have had the same tech. He was talking about how he had just done a 100 and I said was it white and he said yes. He was good an knew his stuff. Unfortunately had 3 of the rivets not seat properly on the passenger side. Hope this is more to do with installation error and not an issue with the holes. I have two more OEM rivets so while its under warranty I am going to get them to come back out. Although I am debating on just doing them myself so I can drill them out and not worry about damage. Wonder if I can use a slightly larger plastic rivet for the other one. Need to research. Either way its great to have a windshield again and thank you for the recommendation. Hopefully mine will be on the road soon and I will see you out.

Nice! Glad that worked out. I was wondering myself about the rivet being potentially undersized. The previous windshield replacement with a previous owner had the moulding glued down instead of riveted, so I had no idea what they would find behind them when they pulled the old ones off. Luckily mine were fine, but I had saved this post listing a number for an oversized rivet just in case I needed to do the same:
Thanks @aging fleet. I found 90269-04053 in a thread - maybe the thread you're looking for. The over-sized rivet mentioned in that thread is 90269-05034. I guess the thing to do is buy both - if those are the correct over-sized rivets. Any idea how many are needed? Toyota sells them individually.

What color is your 100? I keep a lookout around town for new ones I haven't seen before!

By the way, I would need to find where I put them a few weeks back, but I had bought extra rivets just in case any broke during installation, if you would happen to need any.

Mine is RiverRock Green. Still need to decide on tires and install rack and diff drop and then I can finally drive it around.

If you did have an extra I would gladly buy one off you. I know there are three that are pulled away and I ordered only two extra.

Thank you for that thread. I went ahead and ordered the oversize ones just to have some on hand if needed.

Finally was able to slow down to look for them - I’ve got 8 more left, you’re welcome to any you’d like!

That’s a beautiful color btw - one my favorites.

Yeah It was between that and white, but I spent years looking and kept being drawn to River Rock. Ill just be glad to finally be able to drive it again and enjoy it. Finally getting some of the pieces on after waiting on windshield.

I appreciate the offer of rivets.. I knee-jerk panicked and got some more. I am trying to decide if I do the drilling of the old ones myself and probably just get a rivet gun to install myself too. I am so worried about them nicking paint when they do it and at least if I do it I can pay attention and add paint. Got to do touch ups anyway.. hence all the blue painters tape haha

I considered getting a rivet gun myself to try. I was worried about holding it level and potentially having it kick back and crack the glass if I did it wrong lol

Thats my concern as well. I helped the installer a bit and we put down cardboard between the glass and gun. Seemed to help. May give it a try if I get the courage between now and when they come back out.

When they put my rivets in, I actually drove to the shop in Forest for it. Called them on a Saturday afternoon, they said things were slow and just to come on by, and the same guy who put in the glass put the rivets in too. So swinging by there may be an option too!
