I have three separate chips in a 2005 LC windshield, each smaller than a quarter. Most vehicles I'd be looking at aftermarket replacement but sounds like that's not a great idea on this vehicle. Would prefer to avoid/delay $1,000 factory glass replacement.

Safelite quoted $220 to repair. Thinking about just buying this repair kit for roughly same price:

Clearshield Windshield Repair Kit - Window Rock Chip Repair Kit - Cracked Windshield Repair Kit - Auto Glass Repair Kit for 200+ Repairs

Amazon product ASIN B08HKXQ9D8

Any experience with something like this? How easy/hard to get it right? also do the resins go bad over time? Can’t imagine I would use it more than once or twice a year after the initial triple repair.

Thanks for advice!

I've used one of those small repair tubes. When the crack is new and no water or dirt has gone in, the repair, when done correctly, works beautiful. If it is too old, you cannot get to perfect finish. Here in West TX, if you drive a week on highway, you are guaranteed at least two chips on the front windshield.

I can handle imperfect finish, but I’m in Ohio so if it’s not fixed before winter, we’ll get some rain and then freeze and I will be replacing the windshield.

You can then get those $5 windshield kit. Also get a UV light to cure the glue/filler. Follow the instructions and it is easy. I messed up my first repair but now a kind of a pro in this! Vacuume and vacuum to remove air (use the syringe provided): Wear goggles as sometimes when you force the glue to go into the cracks, it can spray out!

PSA to check with insurance on glass coverage. Adds very little and covers a new windshield (often OEM), moldings, etc... all with little or no deductible.

My glass coverage will have paid out over $3k in 2020 and 2021 and I think I paid an extra $50 in premiums with $0 deductible over that same 24 month period.

I repaired my glass with one of the cheap single use kits and it’s been fine for 6 months through high heat. Not as perfect as unchipped glass, but it stopped the chip from running and no one would notice if they didn’t know.

Time will tell on this repair. The rock that hit this one took a chip out of the glass where it hit.

That looks like a starter kit for someone going into business repairing rock chips.

I used a $15 kit from Amazon. Like the other guys said, it's not perfect, but good enough. If you're thinking "I want perfect and I'm willing to pay for it", I'd still not buy that expensive kit... I'd find a pro to do it.

Agree with the above - Memphis roads suck, so I'm pretty much guaranteed a chip at all times, but these cheap filler kits from Autozone have kept the chips from spreading.
