Windshield Heat Rejection (2 Viewers)

Do replacement windshield have better heat rejection? I have the original oem toyota glass and the heat goes straight through. It is perfectly clear and does not have a bronze or green/blue tint. Has anybody replaced theirs and noticed a difference?

No idea on your questions but I recently heard about this stuff and am going to have the local guy install it on all my windshields. It’s cheaper than a new windshield and they can apply a tint strip over it at the top of the windshield if you want.

Just get it tinted there's a lot of products out now that are basically clear but reject the heat

Two years ago I had the Llumar Air 80 installed on the windscreen of my wife's 100 series, and visibly tinted Llumar on the other windows (I forgot which product). I'm in Dallas/Ft. Worth and it made a really big difference. In the summer, the AC can be run at a lower speed and you just don't feel the battle of keeping the vehicle cool. When sitting in the sun there is much less felt effect and the reduction in glare is a nice bonus.

I liked it so much that I had --all-- of the windows done on my 80 last week with the Air 80. I didn't want any reduction in visibility from the inside and wanted to keep the stock look from the outside, hence the Air 80 all around. The weather's been a bit cooler than usual, but early results seems as promising as what I've experienced in the 100. SML in Lewisville did the work at a reasonable price.

I also have the Llumar film on my windshield and it makes a ~10°F difference.

It also blocks all UV, so no more fading.

ie: do things look less sharp viewing through the film + windshield?

No. If there's any lint/hair/creases, you can see those, and if you really look, you can see the blue tint in the clouds, but you have to compare against the open window.

To OP's question, I just got a new windshield last week and without tint, it's considerably better at blocking UV than what was on there before, and this is with the pretty intense UV we get here at 7k ft. The installer said many replacement windshields nowadays are about 80% and it's sandwiched between the panes as part of the lamination. I still might tint it with some 70% ceramic, but it's certainly lower on the priority list now. Call a local windshield guy vs Safelite/et al and ask.
