The L/R window on our 94 80 started giving us problems recently.
It would go down then would not want to go up. But would eventually go up.
Now it will not go up at all.
I have cleaned all the switches to no avail.
The motor gets power with the switch in the up and down postion.
I pulled the motor off the regulator, and it still only goes one way.
Pulled the motor apart, cleaned the armature and brushes, and same thing.
Before I get a new motor, has anyone had this happen before?
What makes the motor go down versus up?
I'm guessing that would be it, whatever "it " is.
Thanks

You are getting power at the motor in both directions, but do you have ground? How are you checking for power? Unplug the harness to the motor, connect a test light to one side of the connector harness to the motor, and if you have a pushpin, or something equilivelant, stick it in the other terminal and connect the test light to it. If your ground and power is good it will illuminate. I'm just thinking maybe you are using chassis ground? If so, you are not checking the complete circuit.

I think the motor just reverses polarity for the opposite direction.

On DC motors you reverse the polarity to change the direction. Your motor is not your problem. Do both the driver and passenger switches operat the same for that window?

Thanks for reminding me about the DC Motors. The bad thing is I knew.
Switched the wires going into the motor around and it worked both ways. But it seems to be binding in one direction.
Checked continuity through the L/R door switch and only had it in one position (only down, imagine that).
Also checked the R/S switch, and it was getting it in both positions, so I hooked it up to the L/S and it worked.

There is something in the rear switches that keeps the front switch from working also. But I know what it is now, so will order one.

And I was checking with a multimeter. I swore the first time I checked at the motor I was getting voltage in both positions (+ voltage one way and - the other way) but I must have been mistaken.

Thanks for the help and saving me the $$ I was about to spend.
And now I can at least get the window back up.

with a bad connection you can read voltage but not be able to supply enough amps to actually do anything with it. I've actually seen this when trying to illuminate a light bulb not driving a motor. Those switches can be found in 92~96 Camrys which are real popular in the junk yards and the rear switches are often rarely used.
