hey guys somehow the three wires in my winch remote melted themselves together.

warn 8274

the handle/switch part is fine i can splice back onto the original wires .but on this plug end the wires are all melted together right up to the plug .
does anybody know how to open up this plug so i can repalce the wires.
see pic ,when i try to separate the wires the one white wire comes right out of its outer plastic casing.

i need to open this thing up :grinpimp:

get a 4 prong small trailer plug and put it in the winch and on the plug . its what i did , i think its a better set up since you can get parts at a gas station if need be and it cheap / built for the elements .

It does not, unless you cut it apart.

Did you try pushing in and turning like a bayonnette style bulb?

really they don't open that sucks
i already cut it off the rest of the remote is fine.
if i order the new end how do i wire it up if they don't open?

I'm not a purist. For my winch I used a 4 prong metal trailer plug and socket. Open easily and readily available.

I didn't have anything to begin with... Made the remote and wired the socket to the winch.

Nothing wrong with using a 4-prong trailer plug on an 8274 - 30 years ago Warn was using them as a factory installed part.

thanks for all the info guys . but i didn't feel like opening up the cover on the winch ,or heading to the store. so i decided to play around with it . in the end ,
i cut it open on the table saw . pushed the prongs inward and they fell out the back ,
soldered some new wire on, glued it back shut and all is good . all in all it only took about half an hour .and i didn't have to mess with the winch .

question since i haven't opened up the other end ,the trigger end of the remote .i will need to splice onto the original wires . mine has been repaired a few times ,how long is the winch remote wire actually suppose to be ?

heres a pic of it glued back together
i didn't take any pics of it apart

one day if i get energetic i may wrap it all in a piece of fiberglass
