I had a few asking me about my zip line set-up that we recently used at a party...

The snatch block is very cheap...$10 at HarborFreight (china and cheap) I wanted an aluminum roller ...my thinking is that I want the roller to wear before the cable does...at least it made sence at the time :)

As you can see the roller does wear-in ...i have used the zip line several times already...6X maybe...and thats non-stop use for several hrs of fun.

No damage on my winch line...actually...you can see the aluminum particals inbedded into the twine'd steel cable...i do regularly spray the cable when i do landscaping.

The distance that I use is about 80-85 feet from roller fairlead to tree...i have a mini hill in our back yard that makes it easy to get good speed ...its just one step up on a chair to the zip line 'seat'

I made a simple seat from an old school stool...you hold the rope and away you go...

I'll load up a video of the zip line ....mind you holding on with one hand is not easy...sort of like driving and taking pictures at the same time  .... the whole way down was slowing myself down...so i wouldnt go flying at the ends abrupt stop :)

I dont think the video really does it justice...It was VERY fun LOL

If anybody else has done this...post up what you used!!

at the end we have a towel raped around the cable and tied with a knot that gets tighter when pulled...the 'brake' as well call it did not budge...

I had one of our young marines guarding the bottom and giving reminders to put feet down to stop...if you hit the 'brake' hard it gives you a big jolt :D

my daughter just finishing and going for another run...she's a bit of a kamikaze...she tries to let go at the end and go for a tumble...good thing the 'brake' is a safe distance from the winch.

Looks cool may have to do it now

Was that actually a winch line and how long was it? Looked fun!

I wasn't there so I don't know, but just thought it looked like a ton of fun! :D

yup, winch line. Fun. And you can tell great stories about how you ended up with an embossed toyota grille emblem in your forehead too... :)

I was there. I think that it is not a winch line, but they tension it with a winch on top. It looks like about 300 feet of 1/4 inch cable. Winch cable is over kill for a zip line and this zip line is way too long to fit on any winch spool.

^^^ Makes sense...

I have seen several versions there but I think you're right about the later ones at least, I do seem to remember the line being tensioned up top. It was not quite as long as the movie makes it look, though. But somebody directly involved will probably chime in.

I've done it. Damned near impossible to get the truck to hold tight enough tension for an adult. For me the truck just wanted to slide rather than keep it taught. I think the best way to do it would be to anchor the vehicle to something first. The long line on an 8274 is pretty handy for making a zip line out of though.
