Ok I got my Alcan springs yeah!!1 sort of... apparently they made the front spring eyes the same as the rear spring eyes which is roughly 1 3/8" when it should be roughly 1" so I talked with Alcan and searched spectors site for ideas and decided rather than have a 12-14mm pin (1/2"roughtly) float in such a larger bushing even if I could find one I am instead going to use a set of stock greasable pin shackles I got for the rear and decided not to use and use those pins to repopulate the bottom pin of the front shackle and the frame pin.
kind of a pain in the A$$ but it seems to be the best work around and prolly a stronger set up in the end with the larger pins up front. anyway once I get one setup and installed I will take some pics.

Lookin good Jason.

Spring install part 1 (of many)

I don't remember installing springs being this difficult and brain intensive but I am happy with the results so far.
as i mentioned before Alcan made my front spring eyes 1 3/8 like the rear springs instead of the 1" OEM front that they should have been. anyway instead of sending them back and waiting for another set or what have you I decided to put binger pins on the front. and I just so happened to have a brand new set of greesable stock lenght chackles for the rear. so I popped the pins out and widened the holes where nesisary and installed a front spring.
boy is it going to be higher than the stock spring :)
anyway from my pics you can see the new pin in the stock spring pin holder and the last shot is of the shackle with the larger pin in the botom. it all ended up veery nice and clean so I am happy hopefully get atleast the drivers side on this week and back on some tires so I can take a few new height meassurements :)
Mississippi boy sure made this look easy swapping his suspension from truck to truck :)

speaking of floors mine arrived . Wow are they nice i think I need the rest of the lv body new like the floors. I will post pics tommorow . again thank ou Paul I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. and these floors are a huge part of that. amazing work
spent some time on Wilma today my plan now is to finish getting the suspension installed then start on installing the floors. I have one spring left to go just the drivers side rear spring. thanks Mike for the front back info on which way to mount the sring. that would have been a huge pain to have to take them off to flip them around.:)
Mike there is no way this week you can be a #$%^ in my mind not when I have a serious chunk of unobtanium in my garage.:)

and Thanks Randy I bet your lv build up thread will be just as nice:)
pics tomorow!!!

yeha Randy "I sent you that link this morning that would be a hard one to let pass by I would even store it for you until you decide to bring the other women home:)))

more progress on the lv tonight I will post some pics in the morning but i finished installing the new Alcan 6" springs. I was so tired and sweety when I finished I just put most of my tols away and headed in for a shower. will look at it in the morning. but now my plan is to straighten up my garage and clean it out a bit and then start he floor instal :)

edit that 4" springs not 6" that would be to much and I would be better of doing a SOA if I went that high

hopefully the mig smell will keep the mysqitoos away!!

thanks Merbes I can sort of see the light at the end of the tunnel... sort of..

so here are some before after shots of my rear springs. there is no real weight on them in the pics but I still think I am goin g to need a longer brake line

Holy shackle angle batman. Just giving you a hard time. They will probable look better once they are on the ground. Those floors look sweet. Can't wait to see them.

yeah the shackles are straight up and down now with the weight of the truck on them but yeah it does look a bit freaky. theword on alcan springs is they settle an inch and are made aan inch hig so that woule work out just right. gtruck does look different the 31"s that are on it now look small :)

last update for a week or so going on vacation with the family but I worked in 2 days off in my leave for just me at home with Wilma, thats not really an affair is it?
anyway I spent the week end cleaning out my garage and then I have been putting a coat of paint on a day on the floors. I know it would be ideal to paint them once they are installed but I a) we have a rust problem on bar metal in New England not that any has formed but I wanted them covered in weldable primer fast. and since I don't have the room for a rotisorie i figured to shoot hte SEM bed liner on while I could get to every nook and cranny. i left the edges clear of bed liner and will shoot that once they are welded in and seam sealed but the center stuff is all done. again not perfect prolly a few extra steps but it will be functional and clean.
anyway when I get back I should have enought time to get the floors in and finsihed and then the glooves are off and everything can start being put back together. I have been telling myself that once the floors were in I would have it on the road in 10 months max. so we will see.

I say the heck with time frame... just one more thing to be disappointed about!!! :D

Floor looks great, will you be able to get the rest of the stuff SEM under there after you weld it together.

looking good!!!

thanks I know I shouldn't put time frames on stuff but.....
yeah I have sprayed the rest of the under body already but that was before the tranny and engine were in there and now that they are I kind of want to keep the over spray to a minimuim. i just flet getting a majority of it undercoated before it goes in would be a huge time saver and keep things neater. sho knows though I could have made it harder. I just lookat it as progress:) how is your garage? wish I had a litf it would make this easier. but I am building character right???
Jason

Just finished all the inside tin yesterday... garage door should be in there next week... now I have to get going on electrical, get a slab poured for the dog kennel and the side walk and then siding.... so been busy... can not wait to get back to the 40....

just wondering how you like the SEM, is black the original color... I know in Matts build he had his colored body color... I plan to spray my alum tub before I put it on... thinking I am going to go body color.

with all that on there how are you going to weld that back on?

too bad you were not closer... lift would be yours as long as you needed... :D
