Can I hire you by the hour? Will you work for wine?

thanks for hte compliment, unfortunately I don't drink anymore though:cool:

I got a couple hours of painting in last night. i sprayed a couple of coats of chasis black the a couple of clear on all the bumper parts and front cross member. I had boxed in the front frame sections, basically welded the firestein brackets to the frame so that area had to be repainted. hopefully i can get the bumper mounted up today and tommorow.

Looks great! Keep the pics coming. I'll just drink your share of the vino!

Are you heating your garage? I've been dying to start the bodywork but my garage is freezing. My house is over 200 years old so heating the garage is not something in the monthly budget. Are you using a space heater type unit or is it heated by the house furnace. It's killing me to have to wait until April/ May to have the metal warm enough to do paint and skimcoats. Any tips would be appreciated!

my garage is 100+ years old as well it is detached and 50" from the house and when I bought the house 2 1/2 years ago there was no power out there either. I have done as much of a resto on the garage as I have on the 45. I put a sidedoor and got a set of huge double windows at the local hardware store, someone had ordered them and did not want them because they were single pained. out with the sawzaw in with the windows. the other big improvement was putting the tyveck between all the ratfters. I suppose I caould have insulated at the same time but i never feel it is too cold out there. I have a carhart insulated suit and even on the coldest nights i am comfortable.
i do have a little propane heater that I use when shooting some of my paints. but i try and shoot the base coat clear type paint on warmer days. the extreme chasis black I am using doesn't seem to mind what temp it is it always comes out nice and has no troubles.
as far as the skim coating and bondo type stuff. it doesn't like it when it is below freezing but on days i have used it when it is really cold the florescent work lights can heat up what they are pointed at a good 15-20 degrees. usually that is enough for me. I wish I could afford to heat it but I like the cold weather so it does not bother me. I plan on doing the major painting this summer though. when its warmer.
I am waiting for Matt's show in which he does a resto in a 2 car garage for more pointers:)

I have a ton of sanding to do anyway but I'm going to test out our lamp idea for heat.

Found an upholstery guy in Foxboro, MA (my hometown) named Mark's upholstery. He says he'll do bench seats in Vinyl for $225-$300 each installed. His website has some nice shots of model A interiors he's done. It'll be way cheaper than SOR replacements.

I haven't updated in awhile nothing huge done just some odds and ends of little things. it has been real cold hear and makes painting interesting, but I have been making slow progress. I am headed to Hawaii for 2 weeks for work, I wish it was for vacation, so i wanted to get a few things done before I left.
I got the front bumper finally finished and painted the way I wanted it. i had it paited but saw that a couple spots need some attention and some welding so now it is all done up ready for the prom.
been doing alot of body sanding inside and out finding areas that need more of a skim coat to get level. and the big project that i am working my way through is painting the various body parts and storing them in the basement for finally assembly. my garge is only so big so i have been shuttling body parts in finishing any body work. then either jamming them or painting them with there color and a clear over that. so I thought I would have the door window hoops done a while back but I forgot i had to fix the corners of the front door hoops. the corners in front of the vent window were rusted out so i patched in new metal got it all level and just fisnished painting it up last night. I did the bezel and the lift gate and some other little parts. I hope to get the hood in next when I get back and get that jammed and stored .
i also picked up a car top tent its bigger than I thought but I snapped a pic of it next tot he lv.

It should be a fun trip all in all but I can't help but think of it as cruiser addiction rehab. I will be there 2 weeks and won't have access to my cruisers. it will be like being in a bar but only allowed to drink soda water.I can see other cruisers just can't drink them
or maybe I am just warped and should not think of cruisers and have fun which is prolly what i will do:)

Looking good Jason. Give me a call when you get back from your trip and I will stop by and give you a hand.

thanks Jason i will take you up on that.

i finally got one of my last pieces of unobtanium yesterday in the mail. I bought the hood vent from the guy parting out the lv's in Alaska. don't ask what i paid for it. it was a aprt i had to have I did not want to go the route of the previous owner who had simply bondo-ed it shut.
anyway the vent is in great shape and it came with the nice rubber seal in amazing shape so I hope to get it cleaned up and mounted soon.
Ialso got a 78' aircleaner for my 87' 2f I need to dry fit it then clean it up and paint it though
Jason

Can you post a pic of the rubber for the vent? I have never seen one for the early flip up, pre '65 vents. My 64 has a piece of hose that was split and fitted around the edge.

Did yours come with the screen that goes inside? I have one from my '64 if you need to know what it looks like.

no screen :(
did not know there was one.:( :(
yeah post up a pick I will snap a shot of the vent tonight when I get home
thanks

here are the pics of my new air cleaner and the gasket ont he hood vent. the gasket is in amazing shape the vent itself while not having a nice coat of paint is straingt and in great shape too.
