took a break form painting today on my last day of vacation and headed dwon to Foxfab to get Wilma a front winch bumper made up. it is not finished yet but not a whole lot left to do on it.here is a series of pics i took while we mounted a budbuilt winch plate into a 5" C type channel that we tapered in 15 degrees on each side. I am just not a huge fan of the I-beam straight across look. I still need to weld on some shackle mounts and cut away the winch plate where it interfers with my saginaw box but I am very pleased with it.
hopefull this week I can get out to the garage and finish it up and get a couple coats of clear on the jamming I did the last couple days then I will get some more pics up

alot to show but first a big thanks to Matt for his painting tips and principle'sI must have read his build up thread a dozen times as well as a couple different books as far as shooting color. anyway I jammed a front door and the tailgate in that is all the room in my spray area, I suppose I could make more room but I have other projects going, plus that would mean moving the lawn mower:)

anyway the following pics are a culmination of the last few days of wok on wilma. the first set are of the bumper in ts current state. most of the construction is done now it just needs to be polished up abit. I also got some used hooks and bumper mount pieces n the mail yesterday so I cleaned them up and slapped a coat of rust lock on them I am planning to finish up the bumper and paint everything up at once so excuse the lovely oragne color for the time being:)

the next set of pics are of the door and tailgate after the final coat of clear. they are not perfect but I am pleased. the lily white is a bit richer than I thought it would be but I like it. I need to get a bit better at taping seems I need to smooth down the tape nce it is on a bit better. oh well this is not a musuem peice we will see how it goes I should get better.....

the blue is river blue and is a stock toyota color from the 64-67 toyota color chart. but it was never used for an fj45lv unfortunately... until now:)
I really like the blue as well
while the white color 'lily white' is the stock whitish color used on lv's the richness of it is growing on me fast. although I did expect it to be a bit more cracker than it is.

the steel channel is 5" 1/4" think suff except where thicker in the corners. Mike picked it up at his local steel salvage place. we have a good one over in Dartmouth MA called either steel city or mid city steel something like that but its the type of place you can go and buy scraps. but the 5" height is a perfect fit.

I ordere the rockstmper shackle hangers yesterday too.

Wilma's got a new smile!! Love the bumper! It'll look great with a Warn behind there!! Keep up the good work!!

I just went with the shackles they had at rockstomper. small world you were looking for the shackles hangers at the same time:)

my shackle hangers finally came int he mail yesterday so i got them welded on quick and a few coats of epoxy primer. so now I will shoot a few coats of chasis black and clear and get it all mounted up.. then covered up :( for awhile but atleast that part of the project is done.
well it didn't quite go that smoothly i go all but one side of one hanger welded on when I rand out of welding wire:( luckily i had bought a huge spool of the .035 i was using unfortunately when I broke it open the spool was for a lincoln and I have a miller  so there I was for 20 minutes wrapping wire n the miller spool. what a pain but it worked. anyway here are some pics of the finished product in primer.
