Would mind a quick run down of the material thickness and dimensions you used?

Looks like 2x2" for the chasis and box? .120 wall?

What about your channel and draw bar?

Your cost of $500 to $600 for the build, is that the cost of the materials only or your time plus material?

Well, I try not to charge myself my hourly labor rate, so that would be the cost of materials only. The most expensive parts where the metal, and the aluminum tread brite. Thank God for friends with used parts.

That is such a sweet combo. And the coolest part, if you built it for tons less than you would have paid for it.... You just keep raising the bar....

I pulled her to MOAB this past weekend, damn straight and nice to tow!

Paul May was with us and his $9K Chaser trailer, damn those are sweet! I plan on stealing some ideas off of it to use on mine.

Very nice job, I saw it in Moab and looked at it a little closer. I really like it, if I ever put a real engine in my 85 4Runner I may consider copying your plans. For right now i tow the 4Runner with my truck adn that is enough towing.

I thought I saw a post of it flipped over, but that it wasn't damaged. Good testimonial to your build. After hauling it on the trailer what would you do differently, or what are you glad you did right the first time? Thanks for great write up!

Well, you must be mistaken for a few reasons. Number one, I did not attend CM07 this year, Bimmerfest in CA took priority again. Number two, since I was not in Moab, that definately was NOT me NOR was my trailer tipped over. Sorry.

I will say that our Moab trip a month ago (the maiden voyage) went flawless. The trailer behaved BEAUTIFULLY on the trip down there. No swaying at all!!

The things I have planned for it are some feet for the front and back, it was a little difficult to keep it level via the back of the truck. Aside from that, I will be adding a water tank, and some other ameneties merely for pleasure.

Good to hear it's worked flawlessly for you. I couldn't sleep last night...too many trailer threads running through my head. You guys have given me the sickness! I was thinking that the fenders sticking out the way they do on most of these seem like real hang up points. Do you see that as a problem? What about ''Sliders'' to guide the trailer through trees and obstacles without getting hung on the fenders?

Soooooooooo. A little update: Took the beast on a horrible washboard road. It shook like hell but did just fine. I managed to rattle the Yakima low profile mounts right out of their mounts (the Yakima parts that is) so I may be revising those.

Also, I really got sick of the pintle hitch bouncing around, and am I sure all the campers up in the Uintahs were a little pissed off at it as well since I was so late pulling into camp. So, screw the pintle, I am going with one of these: http://www.locknroll.com/

I lost a back up light in the rattle and rolling too. If anyone finds it, send it my way eh?

But all in all, it still held up just great and was uber-handy.

Just a little 15 month update, still going strong and no breaks! If only my roof top tent cover would have lasted this long!

So, did you go with the Locknroll trailer hitch? Looks a lot like a U-Joint to me. Seems like someone with your skills could just grab a drive shaft off an old F-250 and weld one right up.
