Spring Creek Rock Garden. With soft sand and consistently shifting boulders each year after the snow melt, it is always worse than it looks. This hundred yards or so probably causes more carnage for a non-hardcore trail than any other spot in Colorado.

Yesterday was no exception, although I just added some new bashing to my LCA sliders :D. We had a 40 and a XJ lose a driveshaft, a Profitts 40 buggy lost an oilpan, a nicely built Scrambler lost a brakeline. Good times!

Nice videos!!

Man, your truck is set up exactly how I want mine. Do you notice the spare on the roof causing any issues at all, i.e. top heavyness, noisy on the road, etc?

I've never noticed any issue with the spare. No noise, no mpg loss, no issues offroad. What I do notice is the ability to see out the back :grinpimp:

Makes me happy my horn doesn't work.... Also makes me think of trading in the 80 on a 60 w/o lockers ;)

I don't think that was me, one of the guys with a 3rd Gen Runner hit his horn constantly and he is heading up the bypass as I go over over the obstacle :grinpimp:

I spotted a 60 over the same line, he was dual locked on 35's and it took a bit more effort to get him lined up and on the high line. Once lined up, it looked something like this:

My horn used to trumpet often - then I sunk the truck up to the hood in a mud hole - seemed the only way to keep me from bumping it. Might suggest it to the guy in the 4 runner :)

On the 60, I was refering to the clip where he went right behind you in the same vid.

1/2 the time it's fun to run with people with simular equipment to see how they aproach an obstical differently, the other 1/2 the time it's fun to run with people with much different equipment and see how 10" less or more wheel base, or 6" in track width can make all the difference.

I agree - I wheel a lot with a group that is not about a specific make or model. I really like to see how different rigs handle the same obstacle. I love my 80 until I beach it on the frame, the achilles heel for sure.

thought 80 series have great advantages over 60 in the rocks .. not only better suspension, also automatic tranny help a lot ..

Hadn't you heard, only way to make a 80 work it to put leaf springs on it ;0

Now, now, that's a 3-linked front discussion where you want to run a big lift. Stock suspension to stock suspension, the 80 is superior to a 60 :hillbilly:.

That second vid of my rig running down that gully is a huge drop off near the bottom - you don't really see it because the rig stays so level and balanced, but that is what I love about our suspension - it doesn't flex well in some situations, but it is so stable and balanced in others. I know people who have rolled on that spot, and it hardly looks like anything on the video of my rig.

What you don't see in the video of the 60 on the "rock pile" obstacle is that it took about 5 tries to get the front end up - he was about to give up when we finally found an angle where it would climb. There was some really good driving there, but the 80's were far more point and shoot, and showed better overall flex and balance.

Cool to see the differences, and the 2nd Gen Runners that just walked over the whole thing without even slowing down
