Does anyone have handy the width of the wide front 79 axle (wheel hub/ wheel mount face on rotor) and the width of the 80 series rear axle (same mounting face) ?

This isn't some crucial info I need, just thinking scenarios through. I have both axles, but the 79 is disassembled and the 80 is out in the snow, lol.

Sooo, if anyone has the answer without great difficulty, I would appreciate it.

Cheers!!

@SipLife has a HD (square housing) 70 series front axle for sale. He will respond.

Full float 80 rear is 63” 😎

Best web searching I can find is the wide front 7X series is 61.22. That is closer than the 7X series stock, front to back, albeit the rear is now wider vs narrower. Interesting.

On most "80 chassis under a 79 series" builds, I am seeing the front look pretty even with the flares and the rear poking a bit.
So really, the 79 bodywork is considerably wider in the front than the back.

Is the narrow front 79 series axle the same width as the rest of the 7X series from the same era? That would be 2001-2007 IIRC.
Just adding to the mental database. I just put a tape on my HZJ-73 and it is very close to 56"- that was a quick eyeball lineup. I can do it exact when we put the toe plates on.

Web searching forums from AU on the front to rear axle difference, I am seeing a 95mm difference or about 3.75". Add that to my 56" measurement, and we get 59.75". Closer, but still doesn't match up to my web search of the 79 wide front being 61.22"

Just measured '02 HZJ79 (solid axle) inside rotor face to inside rotor face was ~52". Newer diffs were made quite a bit wider at the front to fit the V8. 80 series diffs work with OEM steelies and 2" flares, depending on application.

The 2008+ alloy wheels have zero offset. So the front track width would equal the axle width (WMS to WMS). 1555mm =61.22 in
