Why no Icon suspension for 100s?

Hey mud,

Like the title says, I'm curious as to why Icon does not offer any suspension components/complete systems for the 100 series. The have products for just about every semi-late model Toyota 4x4 (FJ, Tacoma, Tundra, 4 Runner, even the 200 Series!!) but alas, no 100 series offerings. I emailed the company a while back asking this same question and received zero response. Anyone have any info on this?

Ahh, I see, , makes sense now. Did not even think of that. Feel free to delete this post since it is not very informative Mr. Monkey.

No reason they couldn't do shocks for the 100, they do rear shocks for the tacoma leaf spring trucks. All we need are coil-overs without the coils.
I think the bigger reason is they are more focused on desert and high speed lightweight stuff. There are also not as many 100 series owners who go for high end aftermarket shocks as compared to the pickup/4-runner/FJ cruiser platforms. The other platforms also have a lot of similarities and can therefor share development and manufacturing costs.

I would love a set of ICON's for the 100 if they performed even half as well as the ICON's on my Tacoma.
They are awesome on the Tacoma not because of their construction but because they are perfectly tuned for the vehicle.

No reason you can't get Slee, Radflow, King or Fox shocks though and be pretty happy!

They should make torsion delete coilovers for the front....packaging looks easy to me...but I won't be doing anything.

I believe the Russian outfit was building the torsion bar delete but has not come to fruition yet.

It would probably be a whole lot more expensive than most of us would imagine:
New LCA that are designed to support much more force than just the shock mount is able to handle.
New larger UCAs to clear the coilover body.
New upper coilover mount welded to the frame.

There is probably a bunch of other small issues as well.

When I spoke to them at SEMA they said they were going to come out with shocks that would fit the 100. Weather that happens or not....

Yep these are the real issues for a coil-over conversion. The coil-over would be more easily tuned than a T-bar (cheaper to swap the spring). Other than that there is not a lot to be gained. Travel is still limited the by length of the arms and the CV's. Long arms and long CV's could be done but how many would pony up for that on the 100 when the cost would put you well into (beyond?) solid axle territory. Most of us are not running desert and flying through the air. For Expo type use the SAS would be more effective, reliable and serviceable.

That said, Icon could do shocks for the 100 if they wanted to but we are pretty well covered as it is.

They are trying to import them into the US for sale, I have been talking with them for quite some time. Slow moving project, and the time zones make it difficult to talk over Skype. We are working out details and trying to get a conversion installed on my truck. They designed new knuckles to allow for several inches of additional travel, while retaining OEM arms and CV's. It's a very cool design, I just have not had time to sit down and knock out the hard data with them. Maybe I will try later this week if I can sit down and call them.

Interested to see how you get the additional travel without having longer CV's...sounds like the tires would practically drop under the truck without the extended length of arms and CV's....I guess seeing will be believing for me...keep us posted. thanks

In Russia, suspension cycles YOU!

Yeah, I could see a different spindle offset allowing for more lift (or droop) but I can't see getting more total travel from the CV's. My guess is it's the same travel just shifted. The only other way I can envision is they have a 1:1 gearset in the spindle that puts the CV horizontal or sloping upward at neutral so more is available for down travel thereby allowing more total travel but I can't see squeezing 3 gears into an upright. The complexity, reliability, and un-sprung weight would all be pretty high.

I need to see this set up.

Look at Tamerlans posts if you are interested in the suspension setup others are referring to in this thread:

OK, I remember that thread. Nothing ground breaking there. No way I would go that route without beefing the upper shock tower. Drop brackets are a lift but in no way an improvement.

True, I have always been concerned about the shock hoops holding the weight of the vehicle. I would like to cut the OEM's out and weld some DOM shock hoops similar to pre-runner rigs.

There are multiple companies making brackets to do that. I used the mounts from bluetorchfab and ballistic fab on my last crawler jeep.

That make coilover shock upper mounts designed to work with IFS?
