I bought my first LC about a year ago and then learned about MUD. I know I have posted my fair share of newb questions but I have always found a great wealth of knowledge. I’ve found people willing to talk me off the ledge of selling and not even trying to fix my problems. Thing is, I have a rusted frame LC from PA. But I absolutely love this vehicle. Once I get to CO i know the looks I will get from all of those pristine LC’s from the west, no salt, coast. But dealing with the rust is giving me a new skill set. In my latest thread about my repairs one poster talked about the value of learning to tap and die with rusted components. A skill some may not get because of the lack of rust. My point is that this forum has kept me positive when I wanted to just quit. When I asked those “should I” or “What do you guys think” questions I found people happy to help and keep me on the right track.

Maybe there should be an separate thread "price/buying"
and a tread “what are the biggest tires I can have on an LC” ?

I'm on a duck hunting forum and it's the same way with lots of newbs getting in to the sport asking the same old questions but that's part of learning. I like the idea of a sub forum for values. It could be a forum where people could ask if something is a fair deal or what a rig is worth that they are putting up for sale. I know with 80's looking at KBB is worthless if the cruiser has a lot of mods and 100's are getting to be the same way. I've owned 8 cruisers over the last 30 years and I still like to know what others think about a possible purchase, trade, or sale.

Is it really that big of a deal? As far as I know, no one is forcing folks to read threads.

Good grief, part of being a helpful forum is helping people who are unaware of what to look for know what to buy or avoid.

Some folks around here take themselves too seriously. Personally, I'm thankful for those who are willing to help for the umpteenth time - it's what makes this forum great.

I'd just as soon the whiners move on - complaining about other posters does nothing to increase the signal-to-noise ratio...

I have noticed in Chit-Chat that there have been a few moved from the 80 series forum for not being tech, and not from any other tech forum. I have also noticed those in Chit-Chat don't like talking about 100's or 200's or whatever. Also, when I first joined I had no idea where to post my first question because it wasn't really tech, but there was nowhere else to post where those I wanted to see it would look. Anyway, thanks for putting up with me.

Came here from the 80 forums after buying an LX for my wife. Seems like this forum in particular is rife with people incapable of making a decision to buy a truck. Every other day there are at least 3-4 posts popping into the front page feed asking if any particular truck is a good deal. Are you that unsure of your ability to conduct market research for your area? Your ability to negotiate a fair price? Your ability to examine a vehicle to determine if you want to buy it? None of your indecision is tech. This is a tech forum. If you can't decide if a truck is a fair deal you probably shouldn't buy an expensive to maintain 15+ year old vehicle. There are literally hundreds of threads on this forum asking the exact same question. Read them. This doesn't seem to be a problem on the 80 forum, if it is I missed it all through sheer dumb luck for the past 8 years or so. Nope that gold plated diamond encrusted underground bunker find with 25 original miles is not a good deal. OK, rant over.

Been on the 100 and 200 forums about 11 years. Really enjoy how this forum is run and all the help questions. Use to have a 80 series 1995 FZJ80 and was on here back then but forgot the ID so had to start over when I bought my first 100. Back when I had my 80 the 80's group was just as helpful and open to any question as the 100 group is now. Sorry to hear it's changed over the years.

Additional sub-forums or dedicated threads also decrease the traffic from the people who are the best ones to help, who will be in their respective sub-forums. I think if you are in a forum you just have to tolerate people like me. For every diesel-transplant post, I ask about changing wiper blades.

Old vs. new isn't the issue. I was on a CJ forum for years - as old as the FJ40s and (of course) way more repair/build issues. But, still a lot of "Is this is a good deal" discussions. Same for the cycling forums. Hardcore racers and newbies... lots of "is carbon really better than aluminum" (like ATs vs. MTs) and of course "Is this a good deal" threads.

This is one of the few forums (actually don't know of another) that does not have a General Discussion forum. These catch a lot (!) of the crap and repeats.

So yeah, I think the forum would benefit from a General Discussion forum.

Worst thread ever.

You got so worked up over having to skip over threads you dont care about to make a rant thread about it. Is this the biggest problem in your life or are you just angry at the world?

Try to just be happy about the land cruiser community growing instead of angry about a thread where someone was trying to understand more about a very large purchase.

,Personally I'd welcome a section devoted to buying question. Not in classifieds adds, but possible a sub or separate section. One with suggestion/request that the buyer post the outcome with final price. Giving details of how they found, what geographic area, w/pictures of the good, the bad & the ugly condition. With follow-ups over time on what they found and felt once they had for some length of time.

But would this just be too much of a pain for the moderator, needing to move those threads that don't read the rules first of Tech forum.

It would be our own NADA or KB live with real time help all in one spot.

^ This would be very useful. Before we bought our LC, I tried to read a lot of threads what everyone did after buying - why/what was fixed/changed/baselined after purchase. I wanted to see how much trouble I am getting myself into when buying LC haha... Seriously, its been great and I have learned a lot. I cant complain at all...

A new buyer normally has a technical question to ask, even if it is how long will the ahc last. So I think this forum is the right place for these questions, these trucks demand a high price for an ageing vehicle so people do need abit of reassurance, and where better than here. As mentioned before some people need advice on a tire, and that is less of a worry than spending 15k on a unknown used vehicle without a manufacters warranty.

That's my point, one stop shop for learning the in and outs of buying. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against these threads in the tech forum. Just feel would better served in one section.

I clearly violated this yesterday by putting some of my questions into the Tech Forum. I honestly didn't even see that it was a tech forum, I saw "100 Series" and wanted 100 Series owners expertise. I over research to the point of insanity but needed a last minute push to make a decision.

Fair point about wrong area, I feel that pain everytime in an Ice Fishing forum when I have to educate people about 200khz transducers and interference but I usually cut and paste. I guess I feel like if I can help someone understand it may help them make an educated decision.

OP. We get it.

I have had my share of posts where other members have called me out or pm'd about either my post or response. What can I say. I was a newbie.

Yes I would rather read/learn and see detailed pics about steering rack replacement, timing belt, or ball joints to name a few.

That being said I try to chime in when a newbie asks a question. Sometimes I skip and think to myself: someone else will chime in with a good/accurate response.

In my older age and after being on this forum for years my philosophy is pretty simple:

It's about people helping people.

It's about people helping people.

Echo This^
