This is a tech forum.

Busted.

See! Everyone's guilty of it including those who complain about it. This thread technically has no more right being here in the 100 tech forum than another "how much is this 100 worth?" thread.

Technically, this thread should have been posted in chat.

I just bring this up not to be an ass but to highlight that the series forums are the logical place for newer members and not so new members to ask all things relevant to that series.

Most, if not all new members are not fluent in MUD forum thread posting etiquette and there are no
rules clearly visible.
And since now there are a lot of "how much is this worth?" threads on mud that show up on google searches... the snowball is just getting bigger.

How hard would it be to delete them after a week? They typically have no relevance after that, and no value in archiving for a search down the road....

What we really need is an artificial intelligence forum plug-in that would reject hopelessly retarded thread titles like, "Help" or "Should I?" Or "What do you think?" That'dbereallygreat....

Yeah that'd be awesome, so like when a few months ago that guy that was stuck in the middle of nowhere with his wife and kids and posted a real time Help! thread wouldn't have had cruiser guys on their way to help. Or when that other guy more recently posted a help thread while on a cross country trip with his family saying his front diff was jacked up, and a forum member who lived in the area had the part he needed and they got him back on the road.

Man it's hilarious how much something so pitty bothers some of you. Just move on to the next thread. I'd hate to see how some of you think when you run into a real life annoyance that actually matters, probably go into straight serial killer mode. But then again, its not the internet where everyone is the toughest guy in the room, you probably say nothing and move on

This is coming from a natural pessimistic a-hole, I became a lot happier person the day I stopped letting meaningless stuff bother me, try it.

Having belonged to forums from literally the beginning of the public Internet (o/a 1987) nothing will completely KILL a forum faster than deleting threads that "some people" think don't belong. Over moderation and restrictive rules usually end up destroying a forum..

No such thing as a "Tech" forum. They are all social forums that form their own social logic. The 80 series forum is its own animal. It's also the most vibrant and community oriented forum on this site, imo.

Unfortunately, the two-dimensional thinkers and those with an utter lack of imagination don't get that.

 it doesn't "bother" me as I just don't read them. If you need "urgent real-time help" and your thread title is "Help" you cut out a good chunk of your target audience precisely because they skip over it. "Urgent help with ____________ (brake booster, front diff, starter, ignition, transmission, etc.) is going to get you a better result. Just trying to improve the forum. Chill...

We floated the sub-forum, but where does that stop? Sub-forum for buying, for selling, for tires, for new purchases, for videos, for pictures, etc. Then people complain about the 15 stickies at the top that they have to scroll through. So before you say nothing was executed, please realize that plenty of things have been tried, including:

- single thread where everything gets moved to. Complaints about can't tell who's responding to what post, despite the ability to use "@" as I already mentioned. Thread goes to page 2, newb doesn't know it exists, posts new thread. Mods have to merge.
- move all purchase question threads to classifieds. Complaints from sellers that their threads are being diluted, complaints from posters that no one goes to the classifieds so their thread gets no views.
- delete thread with note to post in classifieds. Complaints if mods miss one, "why did my thread get deleted but his thread stays?"

Trunk- I mean no disrespect, I know things have been bounced around previously before. I was referring to the 2 months since it was discussed last.

It's a tough decision with no good resolutions. You don't want to alienate newbies, they could be the next major contributor. But likke others have stated, I just move on now.

This^

While I don't enjoy the "is this a good deal" threads as well, I have been on forums where the mods were power hungry and would show no remorse in any situation, as well as deleting threads for no reason. That forum went down the toilet. While I agree they are a nuisance, we don't want to potentially scare away any potential forum contributors.

I think you guys complaining are crazy. Those threads are a critical point of forums like this. Until there is a dedicated section (sub-forum) for those threads they belong right where they are.

Are we a group of enthusiasts helping others become enthusiasts? Or are we unwelcoming to new folks looking for advice on a relatively high $$ purchase?

If the clutter is an issue, then make a sub-forum.

I think the increase in those threads is an excellent sign. There is increasing interest in the cars we all love. How is that not a positive thing?

Very much agreed. Let the forum flow as it will. Trying to control the direction of the forum by discouraging threads can have very negative affects and drive great people away from the community.

These vehicles are 10+ years old. I think all tech has been covered over and over again. How much more do you want? I couldn't care less if people come in asking for purchase advice. Let's not be snobs.

Lately it has just become a lot of "I'm an idiot" threads.

why would you bitch? I don't read what has no interest to me... there are a thousand posts about front bumpers... really? the closest my 100's come to off road is parking in the grass or a boat ramp... so tires, rims, lifts... aren't in my wheel house...
It's like a buffet

Whats wrong with a underground bunker find?
It drove straight out from 70 meter's below ground but I could not do that without you guys  :flipoff2:

Came here from the 80 forums after buying an LX for my wife. Seems like this forum in particular is rife with people incapable of making a decision to buy a truck. Every other day there are at least 3-4 posts popping into the front page feed asking if any particular truck is a good deal. Are you that unsure of your ability to conduct market research for your area? Your ability to negotiate a fair price? Your ability to examine a vehicle to determine if you want to buy it? None of your indecision is tech. This is a tech forum. If you can't decide if a truck is a fair deal you probably shouldn't buy an expensive to maintain 15+ year old vehicle. There are literally hundreds of threads on this forum asking the exact same question. Read them. This doesn't seem to be a problem on the 80 forum, if it is I missed it all through sheer dumb luck for the past 8 years or so. Nope that gold plated diamond encrusted underground bunker find with 25 original miles is not a good deal. OK, rant over.

Way different demographic over here, a lot less tech. 80's owners are doing engine conversions and 3 links.

When folks new to land cruisers come here with possibly their first land cruiser related question like "should I buy this?" and they get some good feedback, they're probably going to keep visiting here post-purchase. It's a great way to keep the population here strong. If natural attrition isn't countered by new members this forum would die off, and that would indeed suck.

...yeah, I just hate it when people start non-tech related threads in the tech forum. See above as example :-)
