Went for a surf yesterday afternoon and on my way back home on PCH in Laguna Beach my v-belt disintegrated (just two days ago i was looking at it and realized it needed to be replaced). Lucky for me Laguna Beach Auto Parts on Pearl st. was very close by. I ran in, technically he was closed but had some buddies in drinking beer, Jerry gave me 3 different belts to try and a wrench. Fixed and back on the road in 30 min from when I pulled over.

This kind of s*** just doesn't happen with new cars, I love my Land Cruiser!

Tech side: Anyone know the thickness of a V-belt for the early 2H engine? The only belts Jerry had were a little thinner than it should be and I stupidly left the old one on his counter.

I saw your truck in the parking lot at crystal cove two days ago with the surf boards on top, but I didn't see you at the beach. I believe that they are 17 mm wide.

Yep, 17mm.

Pre-82 Toyota p/n is 99343‑01075, post 82 is 99343‑01065. Belts interchange to Gates TR22425 and TR22416 respectively, which are both a 17mm width belt.

The last 5 digits of the Toyota p/n are the proper length in mm, so the first one is 1075mm and the second is 1065mm. Gates lists 1080 and 1058 respectively.

I love my 40 too... my 1999 dodge ram blew a u-joint last weekend. The crashing around bent the drive shaft tube.. and cracked the transfer case. I now have a 1968 FJ40 daily driver and a 1999 project rig. But the cruiser rarely leaves me stranded!!

Yup love my 40. 38 year old mechanical fuel pump finally quit while driving in town with the wifey. I pulled over surveyed the problem and had an electric pump in the glove box. Installed it and was on the road again in 45 minutes or less.:steer:

ive driven fj40s for 40 years and they always performed above and beyond.where i live no one even knows what they are anymore.!!!!!!!!!!
