Why change the bed to a newer one?

I was wondering what is the point of updating the bed on a fj45 to a newer one? Or is it just for looks

They are easily sourced compared to the early beds. Although now days everything is reproduced.

There are also companies producing beds as an alternative. Aqualu produces a SWB and LWB bed. I have the LWB from Aqualu and the quality is great. Plus it’ll never rust! I personally don’t like the body lines of the 2 beds you posted above. Which is why I went with Aqualu. Both of Aqualu’s beds follow the factory body lines of factory beds. If I can’t find someone to make a floor for the bed of my ‘67 SWB then I’ll get a Aqualu SWB bed.

Notice that the second pic you posted they did not lower the bed to match the top or the rear rail of the tub. Annoys me to see the headache rack above the cab that much. FZJ79 beds are a little easier to source. A bunch are pulled from brand new trucks before they go underground. Personally, I always wanted a SWB with a LWB shortened bed, my bed was rotten, it allowed me to go on a road trip, it was cheaper to get a new bed, the new bed came with a headache rack, new tailgate,tail lights that incorporated a reverse light, and a tire carrier. And my truck is not original.

Your truck is really nice. I like how the trucks look in its original state. I also like the the lines on your truck. A bit aggressive but in a good way

Hey @tornadoalleycruiser , are ‘79 beds still readily available? I did a quick archive search, found a link, but it was old & broken.

They pop up quite often. I'll see if we can find the contact info. The one on my truck was new pulloff from a mine truck. They had a bunch.
