[rant] Why should Toyota have to retrofit their pedals for people that think putting 2 or 3 layers of floor mats in a car is a good idea? How much more stupid-proof do we have to make vehicles? So much for personal responsibility these days  [/rant]

I mean no disrespect to the driver/passengers who were killed; they had rented the vehicle from someone IIRC.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all in agreement about the way things are regarding risk management and risk litigation nowadays, I'm just saying that the space between the pedal and the floor is indeed too tight for what so many people persistently do with their thick mats. Combine that with the very tragic incident and a previous policy of not insisting on only one mat at any time and you've got 4 million vehicles getting recalled for a "push-pedal trimming" and probably several warning stickers posted throughout the cabin. Again, not in agreement, just realistic about it all. Additionally I wouldn't say a system which requires the driver to deliberately hold down the start switch for three seconds while his/her vehicle is speeding out of control very "stupid-proof". Neither would I say a system that can't be over braked is very "stupid-proof". As much as I love Toyota engineering, those two things were, well, stupid.

The last thing we need are more stupid drivers on the roads. I'm not so certain we should "stupid" proof cars.

Wow, that's pretty harsh, especially considering the context of the particular tragedy we're talking about here.

See the San Antonio thread in Chat. This town is going to kill me one day.

The Kraco from Costco. Had a set in my wife's Caravan since 1995, just sold the minivan last year. They were installed in Alaska, they handled the cold pretty well. Only $19.00 s a set (front-rear). I have a set on each of my Cruisers, Like them because they have the deep grooves that hold a lot of dirt/grime.

Just get the Husky Liners, You'll love them. Oh...this is my old thread. Yep, should have gotten these when I first got the vehicle. I love them. This 94 is my daily driver, almost perfect cloth factory seats, no rips, most reliable dependable vehicle I've ever had and even with the poor gas mileage, it's still my driver. The new floor mats/husky liners were a great upgrade esp. in carrying a lot of cargo in the back that is messy like bags of mulch, etc. which always seem to rip and get all over the carpet. These protect your carpet and you just wipe them out and it's clean again. Love them.

Loved them on my vacation, as they collected all the mud and spilled drinks with ease. The black color looks nice inside the dark green Cruiser, with dark brown carpet and black steering wheel and other accents. I like it better than the dark brown carpet mats.

So.....thanks for all the reply's and if you're out there, wondering which to get, yep....get the Husky Liners. Wonderful upgrade.

Last night one of my children spilled a soft drink on the floor. My :princess: was freakin a bit and I said don't worry about it. It turns out the entire drink was contained by the middle row husky. I just dumped it out, hosed it off and reinstalled it. No sticky mess and the carpet is still pristine.

Husky - normal or heavy duty?

Just picked up the husky mats, disappointed. Fitment is so-so at best, the outer lip sticks up causing your feet to catch them getting in and out. I guess I'll keep looking for a decent mat. We should put a petition together to weathertech?

That has been tried, and WT said :flipoff2: in a nice way of course.

I actually like my Husky's and don't find myself catching the lip at all. Though I do have step slidders

Husky's suck. My opinion.

Anything. The lip on them gets very annoying very quickly and they are paper thin. Also, they can freeze and break! Some guys are using some mats made for the 100's that are nice and fit the 80 real good. Wish I could remember the brand so I could tell you. A search may bring them up.

I love my Inno-hex from Autoanything...... great fit and they work, no lip however and a bit hard to clean, but they are nice and solid and don't have the lip that my old huskies had.... now if I had kids or lived with a lot of snow normally I'd of found the compromise better.....

Thanks for the tip, I have Weathertech and they do not fit as advertised.

RS6 I'm now more curious where you got those seats?? They look like Recaros. Any info, and sorry All to hijack..

J

The seats are Pro-car lumbar elites - roughly 340 Eac
PM me if you want more info - SCAT was great to work with and fast but there are some things to be aware of like brackets and replacing seat belt end ( if you have power seats that's built in...) they also can do them in leather.... but the pleather is really great quality and help up super well in my old truck

Cheers
