To bring this interesting thread back to life.

I have 187k on my '99 LC and just the other day has been running rough and missing. I was told that it may be a bad coil, but a trip to the mechanic shall tell the tale. Any ideas, please feel free to shoot them my way.
I would definitely say it was a coil or a bad plug. You could take it to any auto parts store and get them to run a free diagnosis with one of their handydandy little computers. Are you getting a check engine light at all?

I'm in the process of getting the tranny replaced at only 64,000 miles. The dealership said that they had never seen that in a low milage LC. I'm pretty pissed at this point, I'd be more pissed if I didn't have an extended warranty..Get this, it expires on the 21st of this month !! Other than that only the antenna, 02 sensor, 1 brake job, shocks replaced with Bilsteins and tires replaced with BFG AT's have been done. All required maintenance has been done to the tee.. I'm eager to see the new 2008 LC/LX, I'm tired of preowned cars. I bought this thing at Toyota of Plano in August 2004 and I got taken to the cleaners.. Worst car buying experience of my life !! They are a bunch of crooks :mad:..I am still mad at myself for allowing them to get to me . Never again !! Next car buying experience I am going to be the one in charge !!

First post, only problem I've had is the lumbar support works whenever it feels like it. Not an issue with me. Other than that it's been trouble free.
03 here with 10,615 miles. we just bought it from a couple who never drove it. Same problem with the lumbar support - funny.

99 with almost 150k miles. Basically no problems. Tires and brakes seem to be lasting longer on the 100 series than they did on my 80 series.

I bought it with 102k. I owned my 80 series from 100k to 175k and replaced a starter and brakes. These trucks have been bullet proof for me.

2000.....

Bought it at 107k.... around 120k now

So far,
1. Replaced Antennae
2. Busted CD player (never replaced it, Radio works great)
3. Cracked front window.... not sure how that happened.
4. Rear Brake pads & Rotors. They went with No warning... due to a leaking rear axle gasket.... replaced that.
5. Currently looking for a fuel hose part.... I think some one cut it trying to siphon gas while I had it parked in a remote area while guiding a white water rafting trip.....

123K miles:
90k service: T belt, pump, plugs, all fluids (M1), belts
New brake pads
New starter
New tires
New antenna
Catalytic buzz, stops when reaches temperature
OEM Shocks
New cabin air filter (never had one)

98 history....

This is a truck!! if you want a soccer mom smooth riding vehicle buy a freakin' Tahoe or something. LC's aren't suppose to be total luxury trucks....

Now that I have that off my chest:

98 107k, typical servicing, brakes all the way around, made the mechanic put original Toyota pads on the rears following some squealing I was getting about 2k after a rotor turn and NAPA pad install...pissed me off cuzz it was a toyota dealer that took a short cut on parts.

Had the seemingly typical cat converter shield rattle, put the missing bolt in and no more rattle....

Only major...as some of you know...MC/booster/pump change $1450....DIY job saved me about $900, (Cruiserdan gave me a good price).

I don't do much, if any off roading in th 100, sad too say. I'll leave that thrill to the FJ40, so I'm not sure you are getting a fair picture on the maint.

All n all...very pleased with the LC....you don't know what you got till it's gone as I had to drive my son's 4-runner until I replaced the MC/booster/pump. Felt like I was in a sardine can.

!999 LX with 130,000 miles. Two loose rear wheel studs and just changed the serpentine belt!

02 LX 63K

telescopic steering wheel squeaks. i'm dreading the day it breaks.

mine's a 2005 LC100 purchased new now @ 57K Kms
10K Kms - rattle in dash - fixed by Toyota
25K Kms - dust coming in l/h rear cargo area - not yet fully resolved.
27K Kms - replaced tyres - factory grandtreks wore really quick
55K Kms - antenna started sticking - dry lube fixed it
current issues
- usual front tyre wear - needs an alignment.
- front suspension is now in need of an upgrade due to the weight of the ARB bar and accessories. Driving around sharp curves is now an "interesting" experience

cheers
peter

Ok, just picked up the 100 from the dealership...The RO open date was 7/17/07 !! Today is 8/16/07 ..."FINAL DRIVE IN TRANSMISSION HAS A FAILING BEARING...LOTS OF FILLINGS IN TRANSMISSION PAN." The total price for the replacement was $3,348.93....Toyota Extra Mile Warranty--$50.00 deductable..Customer pays $50.00 !! Wow, I barely wheel in this thing..Guess the previous owner had "fun" in it !! Anyone else have this happen at 64,000 miles, or any miles for that matter ? That being said, they detailed it for me and they had it parked next to an '07. Mine looked much better--No runningboards, no rear spoiler and BFG AT's !! When I got in and drove out of the dealership it dawned on me..Damn I love this car, sooo smooth!!! .;p

I think there was a bad run of transmissions in the 2001 model year. IIRC Every reported early transmission failure has been a 2001. Bad shims or something similar.

From a old thread but confirms what you said -

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My understanding is that it only affected the 2000 and 2001 model Lexus for sure and maybe the Tundra/LC for 2000 and 2001 and that it was caused by a supplier that they quit using for the 2002 model year. It was a bad run of shim's. Just what I understood. I've never heard of many transmission problems with the 343's or the 442's.

2002 with 170K

Front rotors
Normal PM's
A few bulbs
Lube the antenna (yearly)
muffler and tail pipe (salt rot at 120K)

Stock except:
Running Royal Purple for all the lubes still does not use a drop of oil.
K&N air intake system.

Just an update now that the thread has re-surfaced. Now have 236K on my 98 without any significant additional problems. I have 1 window stuck in the up position and 2 that act strangely sometimes so I will have to address those. That's about it. 1 fuel pump, 1 broken antenna and the rest has been pretty much just maintenance. I am seriously planning for a minimum 300K with this truck. It may outlive me........although, I spent last week in Colo/NM and noticed she seems a little "tired" in the mountains..............

Anything without a turbo gets "tired" at altitude even if brand new.
