My old 2L engine had 584000km, or so, on the clock.

i have often wondered about the high mileage oil change intervals and how many miles these engines really see vrs the old 5000 km oil changes ...
here is an example of "the oil is the life blood of the engine" theory.
Its pretty much for all diesels, its not oil breakdown from heat/friction, but the amount of soot that contaminates the oil. High priced diesel oil might not be worth it if you are changing every 5k. I would splurge on the filter for sure.I wonder where the change oil every 5000km theory was from?
When I first saw this thread I wasn't sure if the original poster was referring to a Cruiser or those that own them when referencing "high mileage".![]()
G'Day Fella's,
My Battle Cruiser (1989) BJ73, has 380,000 ish kms on the clock.
It still uses only about 150mls (1/2 a cup) of oil, between services (Oil and Oil Filter every 5,000 Kms, since it was new).
Also, I recently did a few trips (one day and several day) and it averaged a fuel consumption of 10.37 Ltrs/100 Kms (Highway day trip of 650kms).
Also and an edited correction (I found another fuel receipt). it used 12.68 Ltrs/100 Kms (Bush trip of 750kms, on 95.14 liters of fuel).
Happy Easter to you all
