Limbaugh just called me back. They've had my junk since 9 this morning and they want to now keep it over night because he is going to do the FIRST thing he shoulda done... check the fuid level...
He was telling me the transmission needs replacing before he could tell me if the fluid was low...
ALSO... he told me I need a new driveshaft because "yours is leaking oil".... I can't make this stuff up...

I wasn't working at limbaugh this morning man...I had the day off...don't quote me when I wasn't there broman dude bro...

I hope it gets figured out bruddah

It's toast... at 89,000 miles... this changes my opinion of the beloved Tundra quite honestly... for a solenoid to render the trans "replacible"...
A reman'd tranny is $3300 from the dealer at my cost... I'm beginning to think it's a racket. slap a new solenoid on there and call it reman'd, charge the consumer $2000 more than you normally would. VIOLA!
I'm not happy right now.... heading to Tuscaloosa in a Corolla...

Oh yeah, it also appears that all they have are reman'd tranny's... can't get a new one.... welcome to the new way of doing things...

Junkyard? Try graham automotive in Calera.

Hey Eric, try giving Sam Stewart a call at Lowe Toyota and see if he can recommend some better options for you. Man that sucks. I hate talking with the dealership service guys - the service writers usually know just enough to BS a soccer mom, but never a true cruiserhead.

best transmission shop in Bham

I didn't realize you were dealing with a trans problem. There is a shop around the corner from Cahaba Brewery where the last honest trans guy on the planet works. As a matter of fact, his name is on the sign over the door.
All kidding aside, MARTY'S TRANSMISSION on southside is the best place I have used for trans repair. After the local ford dealer tried to convince my Pop his F150 trans was toast, he serviced it and it ran fine for two more years till it was totaled. $150 vs. $2700 at the dealer. I would not believe this trans was really dead until Marty told me so.

Do they not service the solenoids in the trans....? Of is that a sign that other crap is toast too?

I'm sure the dealer only "deals" in new or so called factory rebuilt stuff...not a fan of dealer working on my transmission

I know someone who loves that place.

Who loves Tuscaloosa Toyota?

If you start looking for a beater, I just learned corollas don't have timing belts. That may not be a big deal to you, but I hate timing belts.

Good luck!

Sent usin the "new" app.

Did a belt on a 4 banger Camry, I'll go along with the timing belt sentiment.

Some Corollas have timing belts, 1999 and earlier I think.

Had a 2000, I was disappointed that the mileage was never better than 33-34 mpg and it used a lot of oil, this in an engine with < 100k miles. Plus on longer drives it was uncomfortable, but maybe newer ones are better.

the little cars suck on comfort...
my 2010 civic at best gets 34mpg

The rear output was/is leaking... and there's a TSB to replace it! They topped it off and at least now the lights are off... but it's shifting like garbage... tranny is working.... but it's toast...
Gonna try to get down to Lynch and se what they can do at some point... maybe this Holiday weekend...

I had the pleasure of cracking the case of my transmission on 92 GM 4*4 pickup I had at one time. I ended up buying a "crate" gm transmission for a few hundred over what the local shop wanted to rebuild it...plus they wanted more $$ due to the case not being rebuild-able... but the only reason I did that was it came with a 3yr 100Kmile warranty.

There was transmission fluid all over the underside of the truck.. I was not too thrilled about that, since the trans cost was about half the value of the truck..I should have robbed the engine for a V-8 swap...but that was before I got off on the sickness with LC junk.

I would be pissed if my truck trans went out at 80K.

I'm pretty pissed.

yeah...the bad part on some of these trucks/cars is that there are very few options on repair / replacement.

Let us say this...you don't want to buy a replacement engine for a GM truck that runs the 496 / 8.1 liter engine....

i've been there....I almost had some target practice with that older pickup, I would have felt a lot better after a few rounds of buck shot.

Not that this really helps, but Karl's Transmission shop in Pelham is great. He is not a friendly guy, but he does good work. Two shops said my Tacoma needed a new transmission and he fixed it for less than $150.

oof. sad to hear that. especially since my '10 has 35k on it... i wonder how long i have left..... i've never been a huge fan of the auto transmission in the first place. feels like it is shifting constantly. it's quick off the line, but i'd trade that in for a little less whiplash. i think i saw ol' catfish swimming through the summit yesterday mid morning... was that you? really like the blacked out wheels.
