My 04 has started whining and I’m not certain where it’s coming from. The whining increases with acceleration. It sounds like it might be coming from the timing belt or the fan. The timing belt was changed about 20k miles ago. Can anyone help me diagnose?

Use a long screwdriver or socket extensions to listen around on the front of the engine. Kinda like a stethoscope. Good possibility it's the idler pulley, tensioner pulley or alternator. If the timing belt was done 20k ago hopefully the water pump and TB pulleys were changed then as they should have been.

Number one is drive belt idler pulley bearing.
But can be drive belt, drive belt tensioner pulley, fan clutch, fan bracket, timing belt tensioner or idler pulley bearing. Also alternator, Vane pump or compressor.

Some more info would help - miles on truck, does the whining go away eventually after the truck has warmed up? Have you tried to pinpoint with the truck sitting/running and looking under the hood?
155k miles. When it first started it would go away. Now it does not.
