Snow-that's the wrong stuff. You are in Britain right? Ask the Rover guys what they use in their Birfields. Like Rick says, it needs to be Moly fortified. Valvoline makes one that is commonly available here. I've been using Amsoil Heavy Duty Synthetic Grease which is also Moly fortified. I think Christo Slee made this reccomendation a long time ago. I use the Amsoil in the Birfs and knuckle bearings, and Mobil1 Synthetic grease in the wheel bearings.

WTF?
Gonna leave it at dat................................... :flipoff2:

Most of the Landrovers I have owned remained oil tight far longer than what the Landcruiser seems to but of course they do weep eventualy and fixing it is very easy. I can not see why poeple get so upset if any one does this to Landcruiser the most that can hapen is weeping not good but if its good for many vehicles then why not ours especialy in an emergancy a quick squirt and it full. Some Landrover poeple get upset if they find grease in thers! I have used both and in LR steering boxes with no ill effects.

I didn't see where it said it was moly-fortified  .

What's the problem here? Regardless of how many different greases you ask about, it has to be moly-fortified.

This is a very common grease that is used in all sorts of CV joint applications, it should easily be found at any auto store.

Snow, I just went through this last weekend and found that Valvoline Synpower grease is readily available at every parts store I went to, and is the correct type of grease. The only problem I ran into was that ever store only had 1-2 tubes of the stuff, so I had to visit a few differenct stores to get enough.

There is a motor factors in Rochester have you tried them?

Would it be easier to find the grease in a tub than a grease cartride tube? prolly not.....

I tried Ajays but only had NGLI N0 2 grease, but in the book it says thats what goes in the birfs, it dont mention molly, I dont know if I can be bothered to rip out the birf I have already packed with it,

I will try my hardest 2morro looking for a place that does Moly fortified grease, as I really need to get the birfs packed, Like I said, I have put the multipurpose grease in the left hand side birf, and since then, I have had the tocking noise on hard acceleration on right hand turns, when I had the drive shaft out, and cleaned it up last week, I could not see any wear at all with the CV joint, balls looked good and could not feel any play, dont know why it is knocking, I cant think that it is because it is not a moly grease used! considering it was running on birf soup before.

Who’s book?, from the 96 LX FSM,

11. PACK MOLYBDENUM DISULFIDE LITHIUM BASE
GREASE, NLGI NO.2
Pack molybdenum disulfide lithium base grease, NLGI No.2
into the knuckle to about 3 fourths of the knuckle.

I am fairly certain the TLC manual is the similar

Molybdenum disulfide ( “Moly” ) bonds to steel under certain conditions providing a self renewing lubricating coating

If you are unable to find automotive moly grease you may want to go call different aircraft suppliers and lubrication distributors looking for AeroShell 17 the price here varied widely I cant remember what I wound up paying for it, it is group V synthetic base oil with an inorganic thickener very good grease for parts made for it but:

I have not used it long enough in my birf's to give it a solid recommendation (about 6 months and 12K miles) not sure how the seals are going to like it in the long run, but if you can not find any other moly grease you may want to gamble on it, use at you own risk.
