Which winch for an ARB Deluxe?

First you have to ID which ARB you have...they make a model for 98-02 and a model for 03-07
but the 03-07 is commonly installed on the earlier 100's.

Older model accommodates "feet down" install
Newer model is a "feet forward" position/install

I believe that the PO had his winch mounted Feet Forward. With the Zeon fit one but not the other?
You can tell by looking underneath and seeing if you have the subframe with a flat platform and winch mounting pattern. Few s***ty pictures below.

What sold me on HF was ease of warranty. I get it, chances of failure are higher but the reality is noone is reporting massive failures and these new versions are gaining a decent reputation. I also feel like people put so much stress on winch reliability and how serious everything about it is. If my winch breaks and I get stuck in the woods for a week, that's OK in my books, we'll get home eventually. You should have other means of recovery anyway ( shovels, traction boards, etc.)

I bought my HF winch and had some freespooling issues. I brought back the winch only, none of the accessories, no box, no receipt, and they replaced the entire thing no questions asked.

The difference? When you call Warn to tell them their new unit is having issues , they will instruct you on how to take it apart and troubleshoot it. I'm sure Warn has good tech support but I don't want support, just replace it when it breaks. I can't base that comment on experience but when researching my freespool issue I found dozens of Warn forums with the same issue. They all ended up taking it apart, re-greasing, etc.

Feet down style. Either style will almost definitely require moving the control box. the HF box is huge and It just barley fits on the bumper.

You could always buy a big red W and cover up the badlands logo =]

Sorry, I actually thought this was a new thread, not already on to the second page...I was just trying to
make sure we were all discussing the same thing. I don't know about that specific winch.
Generally speaking, winches with permanently attached control boxes don't play well with
feet forward mounting.

Being able to walk into any HF in the USA on any day of the week and get a replacement winch that day is certainly a positive feature. I'm betting there are no more than a handful of places in the lower 48 that are more than 200 miles from a Harbor Freight.

Totally agree on the other means of recovery - and bringing enough stuff with you to either walk our to spend a night in the woods if something goes sideways. A winch failure is just one of a long list of problems that could keep someone from getting home.

You can mount a Zeon either feet down or forward. The clutch can be clocked and the control box relocated, if needed. But some winches have drain holes that also need to be moved for correct orientation. Not sure on Zeon.

Anyone mounted a M12 on 03-07 ARB deluxe bar?

What model bumper is that, 3413190? Don't see why it would't work, what is your concern, fitmet?

Have you checked the manual, if this is the right product number then see below. It just makes note of the need to rotate the gearbox lever thing. So make sure you go for a winch that has that option. Looks like they even have control box mounting brackets available for Warn and some other options.

Yup, looks like it fits. Prefer the M12 series than the Zeon series. Thanks =)

Interesting, what do you like better about the M12 for a LC?
The M series is a heavy duty winch with stronger/bigger gear case then the Zeon Series winch.

Oh, I don't know Warn well, I didn't realize the M12 is different / larger size than other 12k options with their brand. Looks beefy, how much does it weigh?

Should be around 85 lbs with synthetic line, M12S. M12000 is a beast, been a round for quite sometimes now.

The M12 looks awesome, but may be a little more than I need for the LC. I honestly thought about a 9.5K, but want the cushion of the 12K capacity. I do like the more simple build of the M12, but weight, line speed and waterproofness (maybe not a word...) lean me toward the Zeon. The $1K difference in price is worth noting too.

Speaking of 9.5k, currently I have a Warn 9.5XP on my 80 series for 14 yrs. Contactor solenoid may need some attention but still works wonderfully. 😉

Zeon will be just fine. I am just being particular and what a proven heavy duty winch on my 100 and 200. Line speed is not so much of a concern for me as I am not competing with anyone to get out when I am stucked 😅

Mine is definitely the newer model - feet forward.

That's what snatch blocks are for ;)

I will definitely has those too. The Zeon 12S will be here today and I hope to get it mounted this weekend unless. I e-mailed ARB and (as usual) they responded immediately and they have not fit one, but said that it should fit just fine.

ARB tech support is utterly useless for me , glad to hear you have better luck sorta although they never have any answers.... . They weren't even aware they made feet down style winch mounts , they had to write the AU team and ask lol .
