Either mounted on the side panels in the trunk, or somehow hang a flat rectangular from the roof using the handle bar screws and a tray. Clear sound but not very expensive. Looking for some recommendations. Thanks.

I mean, if I wasn't using the tailgate as storage, I would put a couple of massive subwoofers there.. 😁

I believe the tailgate has drains, which would allow equalization of air.

that is a good idea... let me try. wonder how much depth is in there

Depends on what your plans for the vehicle are. I’d love more bass in mine, but it was all a big compromise for me. I have ARB drawers, a semi-permanently mounted fridge, and frequently haul stuff in the back. There's a QPM full of electronics in the factory sub location. I opted for a Memphis powered 8" sub that wedges between the drawers and the 2nd row seat and still sounds decent.

I put a sub in the side, where the old sub was on the LC. Lots of people do this. I made mine but a few sell brackets.

I’ve been very pleased with this set up. I was reluctant to do a fixed mount because I have so many different gear configurations in the back. This Kicker box is indestructible and hardly moves at all in rough trails. I can move it wherever I need it in the back depending on what I’m carrying. Very happy with the performance too.

I put a 10" powered sub in the cargo area wall, I have a crappy head unit and not good with audio but the frequencies don't work well, no snap or punch, thinking of switching to 8".

It has a separate amp. And used a non-crappy head unit to power Focal’s in the doors. Won’t win any contests, but sounds pretty darn good in a LC. Completely removed all road noise from MT tires…

I will say, for anyone going this route, my own similar install was significantly improved by getting some of that thick Thinsulate insulation from an overlander shop and stuffing that quarter panel full behind the panel and sub. It comes in a roll with a width rougly equal to the length of that panel, so I just cut off a piece roughly the right depth and stuffed it back there. It took a bit of patience to get it fitted all the way to the corners, but it killed all the rattles and made the sound significantly tighter. Don't worry about moisture, the stuff is intended for this sort of purpose and can't absorb water.
