Deltapine1 - did you ever run the Lonesome Pine Enduro. If so I was there in open class on a Penton. I was 15 years old.

If you are referring to the one run in the Two Bristols Area back in the early 70's. Negative. I am old but not that old. We did run about 95 miles of the original 350 mile course twice on our CR450's just for fun. We always wanted to run all of it, however, with all of the land closures and changes in property ownership it would be hard to do.

I’ve been running 5-40 rotella for years without issue. It’s good stuff.

It's a truck engine. Put some 10W-40 regular dino oil in it and call it a day. Fix your valve cover gaskets. Don't waste money on synthetic or any blends. It's your truck though. Do what you want. Good luck.

I’d say it’s important to figure out how cold it gets where this person lives.

T5 won’t cut it unless it’s plugged in at -25 and lower

I'm in NC so 99% of my weather will be between 20F and 95F

Yeah I am that old. Did it three times. Hardest runs I ever did. Never placed but I was fast and finished all three times. Made my checkpoints early usually. No support. Just me. Hauled my bikes around in my Dad's J10 with no DL. The water crossings and mud were a bitch. Don't ride now. Beat to hell physically.

??? 15 years old riding open class ??? 6'3" 195# at 15. Started in 175 class at 13, then 250, then open. Pumped gas and mowed yards for the rides and parts.

Glad you got to see some of the country there.

We have much in common but you top me! Three Lonesome Pine finishes is damn good. I wanted to run part of it again with a late model Scrambler I stripped and modified but never made it happen. I mowed many yards and pulled parts at the local wrecking yard for parts, tires and entries. Didn't start open class until 17

You ever get to Silver Gate?

Ah jeezus guys...

Arguing about oil is bad enough; take it to PM's, huh?

I decided on 15w-40 Delo 400 Multigrade. Just have to find it. I know I don't want the LE version do to lack of zinc. I found one in stock locally but I'm not sure this is the same as Multigrade?

Pretty sure that's what has superseded Delo LE.

Looks like they're positioning it as a replacement for both the LE and the multigrade.

LE is API CJ-4, Multigrade is CI-4 Plus, new stuff says "Delo 400 SDE 15W-40 is also backwards compatible with diesel engines in which the API CJ-4, CI-4, CI-4 Plus and CH- 4 service categories are recommended."

I edited it. Before 200 hours is correct.

Based off of 10 years of oil degradation testing. There isn't a commercially available base stock oil available that isn't stable up to 200 hours at temps up to 275 degrees. F.
This reads like a statement from 30 years ago.

I've been using the T6 in my 180k '97. It began leaking/burning more and I was thinking of changing back until I remembered using Auto RX in my other car to clean out oil sludge. It rejuvenates seals over time too so I put the suggested 2-4 ounces in the oil and waited. After a few months of regular driving my 80 stopped loosing oil almost completely. For the last 2 years there's no more oil on the ground and I've only had to add what is probably just normal internal consumption for this mileage.

I ended picking up some T4 Rotella 15w-40 and called it a day. My valve gasket needs to be changed since oil does leak around the seal. Until I can set aside the time to do it properly I'm going to see what the heavy dino oil does (if anything).

I will check into the Auto RX leak fix as well. Thanks everyone!

Not much help here but I run the same oil that I use in my Ram 3500. Valvoline 15w-45 has really great qualities my Diesel guy says with oil detergents are better with some synthetics you don't get detergents. When I got my 80 in 2012 it was leaking from the oil pan gasket. I replaced it and found 150k of sludge. After cleaning it out and replacing the gasket I was running synthetic diesel oil Rotella T6 in my 80 and was burning off too fast. That is when I switched to blended oil and recently pulled the pan and was surprisingly pleased at 225k.

I prefer to use the extra spicy “hot” Rotel with the habanero chilis. Mix a can in with a brick of Velveeta and it makes a great queso. It is not for sissys or youngsters.
