Looking at a couple of 60 series winches but the mounts look different. Which one looks to be easier to mount to a 40?

I thought the head was basically the same and the mount was just slightly different. i was figuring if they were totally different in terms of the mount I could just make my own mount. Is the mount removable from the head?

Thanks-

Pete

Edit- I can see that the rear bar is removable- how about the front bracket?

given toyotas history the winch is probably the same basic winch as a 40.but unless you have a split t case the pto unit will not be the same.as suggested buy 1 from a 40 and it will all bolt up .

The basic winch head unit is the same between the 40, 60 and 70 series. I don't think either of those winches will be harder or easier to mount up than the other. More pics would help, but frankly you'll be fabricating a little anyway...

Here's a pretty clear picture of the 40 series winch head and factory brackets.

As to the PTO gearbox.... if you have a split case T-case, then you need the split case PTO gearbox (from a 60 or 70 series). If you have a one piece T-case, then you will need the earlier one piece PTO gearbox. (sounds obvious as I type it). But I wouldn't worry about that, because if you get the whole thing from the 60, and need to get the right PTO gearbox the split case PTO gearbox is a pretty rare unit, and I'm sure someone would either buy it from you or trade you for a one piece PTO gearbox (myself included--I need a split case PTO gearbox one of these days...).

Thanks guys- I picked up the first one- the seller said that it basically looks to be unused. Got it for $150 or so just the winch itself- how did I do?
